Trump's tweet flagged after he slams fake news with 'manipulated media', Internet says 'Twitter got balls'
If you ever want to see a perfect example of "foot in the mouth" situation, then you should immediately check out US President Donald Trump's latest tweet. The President decided to single-handedly take down the "fake news" by posting a video featuring two toddlers. The brief clip begins with two toddlers running on a street and the breaking news ticker reads: "Terrified toddler runs from racist baby," and "racist baby probably a Trump voter." Soon, the video then shows "what actually happened" and the two kids can be seen lovingly running toward each other for a warm embrace as Harry Connick Jr's song 'Close To You (They Long To Be)' plays in the background. The video then ends by saying: "America is not the problem. Fake news is. If you see something, say something. Only you can prevent fake news dumpster fires."
Putting aside the several problematic themes in the video, what caught the Internet's attention was Twitter's flag to the post. Twitter flagged Trump's tweet as 'manipulated media' because the President used a doctored video to make it appear like the clip was from CNN, although it wasn't. So, in a nutshell, the President was waging a war against "fake news" with a doctored video.
Internet was left amused by the President's actions and Twitter's response to it. A user tweeted, "Damn Twitter got balls. Manipulated media." Another user wrote, "Twitter attached a notice to this tweet warning that it is “manipulated media” LOLOL i love it here .... simultaneously hate it here because..... i still CANT believe this IMBECILE is our president..."
"Manipulated media. Twitter says. Your time is up bunker boy," declared a user. Another user pointed out, "Manipulated Media. DUH! If tRump wins the next election, he'll also be the one making decisions on what's manipulated or not. Be afraid, be very afraid. Hitler was just the entree.'" "'Fake news is the problem' he says with manipulated media," pointed out a user. Another user echoed similar thoughts with, "No it’s manipulated media because it’s coming from a man who won’t stop screaming “fake news” but literally created fake news here..."
This is the first time that the social media platform has flagged Trump's tweet as "manipulated media". In the past, Twitter flagged a tweet of the President for "glorifying violence" which violated the social media platform's terms and conditions. Twitter isn't the only social media platform flagging the President's social media content. Earlier today (June 18). Facebook removed ads posted by the Trump campaign from its platform, after they noticed a Nazi symbol in it. The Trump campaign's ads used a picture of a large red triangle in its promotional material. The same symbol was used by Nazis to classify political prisoners during World War II.
Trump campaign's communication director, Tim Murtaugh defended the advertisement saying the red triangle was used by Antifa and is a common Antifa symbol. But Facebook pulled the ad down saying the imagery violated company policy.
