'American Idol' slammed for Arthur Gunn's entry as Alyssa Wray, Deshawn Goncalves and Cassandra Coleman exit

Wildcard contestant Arthur Gunn made it to the Top 7 while three Season 19 fan-favorites were sent home due to lack of votes, leaving fans angry

'American Idol' audiences saw three exceptional fan-favorite singers being eliminated at the end of the May 2 episode. Alyssa Wray, Cassandra Coleman and Deshawn Goncalves went home after their performances in the Disney-themed episode failed to garner enough votes.

Season 18's runner-up Arthur Gunn joined the competition at the beginning of the episode as a wildcard and he will be seen next week in Mother's Day and Coldplay-themed episode. While a lot of fans were rooting for him as he got a second chance to win the title, many were left heartbroken as he became the last contestant to join the Top 7 lineup while three OG contestants exited the competition.

"Arthur is great, but the fact he went through over Alyssa? or Cassandra? Come on! That's what I don't like about the twist. Yes, last year was different, but Arthur came in 2nd last season. It's like a big "fuck you" to those eliminated who fought hard ALL season #AmericanIdol," read one of the tweets by a fan who believes the results were unfair. "America... do better. stop voting for Arthur Gunn. it’s unfair #AmericanIdol," another fan wrote. "Arthur basically stole this spot from some of the best singers. He had his chance. And then he acted so clueless and couldn’t even stand and clap for the ones that actually sounded good. #americanidol," another tweet read. 

"WHO IN AMERICA IS VOTING FOR HUNTER AND ARTHUR?!!!! OVER ALYSSA??? SHE REALLY COULD'VE WON THIS SEASON #americanidol," another fan wrote. "Y’all just go ahead and crown Arthur as this is a complete waste of everyone’s time at this point. #americanidol," another fan tweeted. "The bottom three should be Top five. Alyssa should have been top two with Grace. #Americanidol Deshawn deserved it over Arthur. this is sad." another tweet read. 

What's next on 'American Idol' Season 19?

The show will air its next episode on May 9 which coincides with Mother's Day. Top 7 contestants Arthur Gunn, Grace Kinstler, Willie Spencer, Hunter Metts, Chayce Beckham, Caleb Kennedy and Casey Bishop will sing two songs, one for a special person in their life and second from Coldplay's discography. Chris Martin will spend one-on-one time with all seven contestants and mentor them for their Coldplay-themed portion of the episode.
