American Idol' fans say judges have 'rocks in their heads' for choosing Kaylin over Matt
A couple that sings together stays together, but sadly that wasn't the case with Kaylin Roberson and her boyfriend Matt Gorman. The couple decided to audition together on 'American Idol' Season 20 with their original song 'Fast Forever', and were hoping to impress the judges with it.
Unfortunately only Kaylin managed to grab the judges' attention and bag the coveted golden ticket to Hollywood, while her boyfriend Matt was shown the door by the judges. Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie praised the duo's performance and the catchy hook of their song, but felt that Kaylin's vocals stole the show while Matt's came across as more of background vocals. So, they split up the couple on the competition.

Fans however didn't agree with the judges' decision and felt that Kaylin and Matt's voices complemented each others' perfectly and that they both should have gotten the golden ticket. A fan commented on the show's YouTube clip of their performance with, "Love the chemistry, between these two. His raspy sound, that's where it's at that's new country music, can't believe they passed him up. Honey don't stress it you got it, your day will come! Baby girl was a power house, very impressed ! Loved it! Really great song!" Another fan wrote, "Nooo!! I loved them as a duet! An accompaniment compliments the lead and Matt did just that. Without Matt's gruff and chill voice, yes Kaylin sounds absolutely amazing, but it's not as special or wouldn't fit the taste of a wider audience without a contrast to her southern twang. At least for me the contrast made me listen more to the great songwriting." "The judges have rocks in their heads for not including Matt, a perfect duo in my opinion," declared a fan.
Many fans also felt that Matt should have gotten the golden ticket for his gruff and unique voice instead of Kaylin. A fan shared, "Omg I liked him better than her actually her voice wasn’t interesting to me, but I liked his deepness and rasp. I think they shoulda let him through cuz they let in some more basic people before. I don’t think the girl will make it on her own but they could have been an amazing duo." "Loved the song. Loved the duet and harmonies. Didn’t love her by herself. Would’ve rather seen him go thru instead of her," expressed a fan. "He sounded better than she was, wow unbelievable… she’s not gonna make it that far compared to the gworls," seconded a fan.
We will just have to wait and watch to see how Kaylin's journey pans out on 'American Idol' without her boyfriend by her side.
'American Idol' Season 20 airs every Sunday at 8/7c on ABC.
