LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA: ‘American Idol’ star David Oliver Willis was arrested for the possession of drugs on Friday, February 11. The singer was pulled over because of a damaged headlight of his vehicle by the police in Lake County, Florida. Reportedly, the officers proceeded to search the singer’s car after smelling marijuana upon being pulled over. The officers said they could “smell marijuana billowing from the car and proceeded to search the vehicle.”  
 
The three-time ‘American Idol’ contestant was found to have a grinder and squares of paper which later tested positive for the hallucinogenic substance LSD. The Lake County police also revealed that Willis later admitted to smoking marijuana with his friend before they got in the car but also maintained that the LSD was not his.

The former quarterfinalist on the singing reality show was charged with a third-degree felony for possessing the controlled substance and is expected back in court in March. Apparently, in Florida, a third-degree felony can lead to up to five years of jail time and a $5,000 fine on top of that. 29-year-old David Willis is a Mount Dora resident in Florida and appeared in seasons 12, 13, and 14 of the popular singing reality show.
 
In a related incident, another former ‘American Idol’ contestant Caleb Kennedy was also arrested on Tuesday, February 8, following a deadly crash in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He has been accused of crashing his car into a man who reportedly died later after sustaining serious injuries. According to the reports, the singer-songwriter has been charged with felony DUI.
 
The 17-year-old crooner, who was one of the top five contestants on the 19th season of the singing reality show, apparently drove a 2011 Ford pickup truck into a workshop behind a home as revealed by the Pacolet Fire Department. The victim has been identified as 54-year-old Larry Duane Parris. Caleb Kennedy was previously all over the news during his stint on ‘American Idol 19’ as he had to leave the show in the middle after getting embroiled in a social media scandal.  
 
The reality show contestant is currently being in the Spartanburg County Detention Center and was charged with felony DUI resulting in death. According to reports, his bond hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday morning. If Caleb is found guilty he could be imprisoned for up to 25 years. Calen Kennedy, who studied at Dorman High School, was invited to audition in front of the judges of ‘American Idol 19’  after he bowled them over with Marshall Tucker Band's song 'Can't You See' and Luke Combs' song 'When it Rains it Pours'.
