'American Horror Story: 1984' could be an Orwellian dystopia like 'Cabin in the Woods', suggests latest fan theory

George Orwell's book '1984' focused on a dystopian future where the government or the Big Brother was constantly watching the masses, something that Mr. Jingles does in AHS: 1984.

'American Horror Story' just debuted its season 9 and the subtitle '1984' was enough to get fans racking their brains about the possible connections it could have to George Orwell's dystopian classic of the same name.

Orwell's famous book '1984' focused on a dystopian future where the government or the Big Brother was constantly watching the masses. While a direct connection with the book could be established by how the ninth season's slasher horror involved the mass murderer Mr. Jingles constantly watching - well, stalking - his victims before he attacks, fans on Reddit have expressed that the speculation of all of this being a government spying on us conspiracy is quite possible too.

Reddit user evolsoulx has suggested: "I'm 90 percent sure that this is all taking place in a space station or Area 51 and it's being recorded, a la Cabin in the Woods." Come to think of it, it's not all that far fetched an idea. 'Cabin in the Woods' saw a similar group of young adults visiting a sinister camp where the horror takes place, but eventually, they realized that the entire situation was staged by the government and they were just lab rats trying to find a way out of the escape room of sorts. Camp Redwood on AHS: 1984 could be the same, considering Ryan Murphy's creativity is sprinkled with unimaginable twists and turns anyway.

Another user, Bailey000 wrote: "I imagine it will be worked in through a few different twists. There will probably be some sort of cabin fever situation where they are trapped, become paranoid, and perhaps spy or turn on each other which would kind of work with some of themes from 1984. Really anything involving a sort of hostage situation that results in one or more characters succumbing to Stockholm syndrome would fit in. It might also randomly involve soviets, and if any characters get attacked by rats, that too would be a reasonable homage."

Other fans think that the season will actually be set in the future, within a video game. Reddit user Frank_the_Bunneh claims that far off in the future, inside this video game, the characters are just avatars of real people playing them - something that could possibly lead to one of those gamers to reenact the murders in real life. And as 'Black Mirror'-esque as the idea sounds, it won't be all that far from what American Horror Story has been so popular for doing these last nine years.

'American Horror Story: 1984' airs on Wednesdays at 9 pm, only on FX.
