Amazon snake cats: Here's everything about 'rare' Serpens Catus going viral on TikTok
The rarest type of Amazon snake cat went viral on TikTok in March 2023. A feline with neon-yellow stripes that resemble snake scales and has been dubbed the "rarest species of feline on Earth."
These creatures are relatively understudied because they are found in remote areas of the Amazon rainforest, a Twitter user claimed. The snake cat, which was captured in photographs for the first time in 2020, weighs 4 stone (56 lbs) in total. The Twitter user said, "Serpens catus is the rarest species of feline on Earth .These Animals live in hard to reach regions of the Amazon rainforest , and therefore they are relatively poorly studied .The first images capturing the snake cat appeared only in the 2020.Weighs up the 4 stone."

Why is Amazon snake cat being called 'fake'?
As expected, there was a lot of discussion about the post on Twitter, with some questioning whether the Amazon snake cat really existed. Many users on Twitter have actively posted their reactions about the viral cat species online and said that they think the cat is "fake."
It's a good thing that everyone shouted fake here, I was completely convinced that it was real.

One Twitter user mocked the photo and said, "Ahh the Photoshopius maximus Serpens catus the rarest of the breed." Another said, "It's not April Fools Day yet." One more commented, "This is a hoax. No question about it. It is photoshopping like they did for the painted cats series many years ago."
One reviewer wrote, "No known gene can create natural hair or fur of such (navy and bright yellow) colours." Another user said, "No such species but good editing."

Amazon snake cat resembles gold-ringed cat snake
Zoology experts were contacted in order to confirm the validity of the snake cat TikTok viral post. The hues and patterns in the image strongly resemble those of the reptile named boiga dendrophila, often known as the "gold-ringed cat snake." A user on Twitter also said the same thing as they wrote, "First of all it was fake. The real one was Gold-ringed cat snake, is a species of rear-fanged venomous snake is endemic to southeast Asia."
