'Almost Family' Episode 1: Edie Palmer finds herself struggling with her sexuality as her marriage remains strained

Fox's latest drama 'Almost Family' has controversy written all over it. Based on the Australian television series 'Sisters', the pilot episode sets the stage for the story of how an award-winning fertility doctor used his own sperm to conceive at least a hundred children through the course of his career.
But the story of 'Almost Family' goes beyond this controversy as lead characters Julia Bechley (Brittany Snow), Edie Palmer (Megalyn Echikunwoke) and Roxy Doyle (Emily Osment) find their lives suddenly dictated by this episode in their lives.
With the news of Dr. Leon Bechley's (Timothy Hutton) actions all over the news, Julia, at first, pushes her two half-sisters away, only to end up reconnecting with Edie and Roxy by the end of the pilot episode.
Among the three sisters, Edie seems to have it all. But underneath that first impression, Echikunwoke's Edie is struggling to keep things together.
The pilot shows Edie and her husband Tim (Mo McRae) have troubles in their marriage. Their marriage has been on the rocks for a while now as Tim notes in the pilot that Edie doesn't seem to like to have sex anymore.
As Edie becomes defensive and is ready to "prove" him wrong, we see that even though she disagrees, she knows deep down that this particular thing is an issue.
Later when they're together, Tim merely places his hand on her making Edie flinch. Following a short disagreement, she leaves the home and finds herself in the bar she earlier met Amanda Doherty (Victoria Cartagena).
During their lunch together, the sexual tension between them is high. When Amanda touches her hand during dinner, she reminds her that she is married to Tim. But in the night when she meets Amanda, she kisses her.
Going by the looks of it, the show is going to get further complicated as Edie will have to, sooner or later, bring the issue to her husband's notice. 'Almost Family' airs on Wednesdays at 9 PM ET/PT.
