This Friday, Netflix released its adaptation of Jennifer Niven's young adult novel, 'All The Bright Places'.

Starring Elle Fanning and Justice Smith as Violet Markey and Theodore Finch, the movie grapples with issues of mental health as two teenagers learn to cope. The movie was directed by Brett Haley and screenplay by Jennifer Niven and Liz Hannah. It also stars Luke Wilson, Virginia Gardner, Felix Mallard, Sofia Hasmik, and Keegan-Michael Key.

The movie has opened to positive responses from the fans — many of them who had read Niven's novel when it came out in 2015. One fan wrote, "All The Bright Places on Netflix depicts mental illness so well, how it can be so well put that you don’t seem like [a] daily habit, shows how depression and other mental illness can truly be and no one really notices until it’s too late."

Another wrote, "Literally cried through most of the movie. Sometimes it was because I knew what was coming. Sometimes it was because @ellefanning and @standup4justice made it believable. All of the times it was because @jenniferniven writes such beautiful characters."

One fan tweeted, "I came across #AlltheBrightPlaces in high school when I needed it most. I've cherished that book ever since. I just finished watching the movie and I'm still trying to process it all. @jenniferniven I am forever grateful for you and this story."

Some fans felt that the movie fell short in comparison to the book. A viewer wrote, "dunno if I cried for the movie or for the impact the book had in my life, for the characters that I already knew. Like Finch is such a complex and vivid character, I feel like they barely scraped the surface of who he was," adding, "my problem was the pacing, the build-up [to] the emotional moments. there were some key scenes missing that would make u understand them a little bit more n it would make everything more impactful."

Viewers felt Netflix should have added a trigger warning for the movie, with one writing, "I just finished #AllTheBrightPlaces and was so disappointed that @netflix decided not to use a trigger warning. It’s their responsibility to make it clear when their content could contain material that is triggering or harmful in any way."

'All The Bright Places' is now streaming on Netflix.
