'All Rise': CBS's legal drama gets Marvel fans to tune in to watch Bullseye and Misty Knight in an alternate universe

Many viewers have tuned in for Marvel alums Simone Missick and Wilson Bethel and were pleased with the premiere. episode
UPDATED SEP 24, 2019

'All Rise' debuted on Monday night on CBS and fans of Simone Missick from her days as Misty Knight on Marvel's 'Luke Cage' are thrilled at the actor's return to television. The show also stars Wilson Bethel, another Marvel alum, who played Bullseye on the Netflix-aired 'Daredevil'. It would seem many of the viewers who tuned in to watch the show premiere tonight were fans of the two actors from their respective shows.

At one point, their characters -- Judge Lola Carmichael and Deputy District Attorney Mark Callan -- talk about one of the accused, calling him "The Punisher", much to the glee of the Marvel fans who were watching. One user even tweeted that the "show is the alternate universe where Bullseye and Misty Knight hangs out and fight crime...in the courtroom. And it’s Amazing. Matt Murdock eat your heart out. #AllRise @SimonMissick @WilsonBethel". Fans were also pleased with the chemistry between Bethel and Missick. DC fans need not feel left out either as Jessica Camacho from 'The Flash' stars as Emily Lopez, a public defender in LA County. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Lola's husband is named Robin who in the first episode is "in D.C."

Viewers are calling the procedural "solid" and "well-balanced" with many praising Missick's performance and fans are liking her character, Lola Carmichael. One viewer tweeted to Missick, "You are my new favorite person!!! @kerrywashington had me with Scandal. @dawnlyen (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) had me with Queen Sugar. Now you got me with #AllRise. You did that tonight honey!!!!" Fans also praised Lola being a "dynamic character" and her being a "judge with defender attitude".

There were some who found Missick's acting a little over the top, and her character "overtly idealistic" and thinks "All Rise" is too similar to legal dramas that have aired on television before. Another criticism comes from a person annoyed with the diversity on the show, who tweeted that the show was "ruined by racist, identity politics propaganda. Awful casting, particularly bad #AffirmativeAction lead actress".

Of course, the show is more than Missick's and Bethel's characters. One viewer wrote that in the premiere episode, they "were introduced to several characters where a backstory can be developed. There was humor & some drama. People can develop feelings for the characters of the show. I look forward to future episodes". Many viewers were also pleased to get a different type of legal drama that would put most of the focus on the judges and their stories. If 'All Rise' manages to keep its viewers interested in the long-term, CBS has got a hit on its hands.

'All Rise' airs on Monday nights on CBS.
