Kamala Harris is the perfect foil to Biden's natural warmth and best answer to a 'demagogue president': Expert

'While they're both trained as lawyers, she is much more the prosecutor, which of course was her career for a long time'

On Wednesday, August 19, the third night of the Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris officially became the first Black woman and Indian-American woman on a major party presidential ticket after she accepted the Democratic Party's vice-presidential nomination, as she pledged to tackle the "structural racism" that still posed a threat to African-Americans across the country.

"That I am here tonight is a testament to the dedication of generations before me," Harris said in her moving speech. "Women and men who believed so fiercely in the promise of equality, liberty, and justice for all. They organized, marched, and fought — not just for their vote, but for a seat at the table."

Former Barack Obama campaign adviser Spencer Critchley, who is also the author of the book 'Patriots of Two Nations: Why Trump Was Inevitable and How We Can Reunite,' and has worked with Democratic Presidential nominee, Joe Biden, in the past, told MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) why he thought Harris was the "perfect" choice for Biden. According to him, Biden brought a certain warmth to the table that can be perfectly complemented by Harris' sharp observational skills she acquired in her days as a prosecutor.

''I think Biden appeals to a very broad range of voters, so if he had to run alone, he'd probably be fine. But Kamala Harris does complement him in some important ways. While they're both trained as lawyers, she is much more the prosecutor, which of course was her career for a long time. So when it's time for something other than Biden's natural warmth, she can help. She has demonstrated that to dramatic effect in Senate hearings, as when she pinned down Attorney General Barr about his improper advocacy for President Trump, in effect showing Barr that she's better at his job than he is,'' he said.

He also referred to the multiple-community representation that Harris brought along with her that would, in time, help guide the president in the best ways to uplift the minority sections of the society. "In terms of representation, it's also valuable that she is a woman, an African-American, an Indian-American, and very highly qualified for the job. I'd say what that really amounts to is that she is All-American, in the truest and best sense of the founding vision of the country: you're an American because you support the Constitution, not because you belong to any particular ethnic group, and your destiny is yours to pursue under freedom and equality. This is especially valuable now, with a demagogic President who attacks this vision every day, trying to turn us from the civic nation the Founders designed into an ethnic nation, driven by tribalistic fear and hatred," he said.

As for paving the way for a more comprehensive and inclusive immigration program in America, there could not be a better person than Harris, Critchley said. "I'm sure that Biden and Harris see immigration the same way, and I would expect that under a Biden-Harris administration, our immigration policy will return to the sane, humane balance that we had under Obama: protect against criminals and terrorists and treat all others with respect, remembering that immigrants built our country and our culture. Without immigrants, there is no America," he said.
