Who is Alexis Sykes? Illinois woman scalds sleeping boyfriend with boiling water, watches as his skin falls off

ROSELLE, ILLINOIS: Reports have surfaced that a 22-year-old woman poured boiling water on her sleeping boyfriend at their apartment in Roselle, Illinois. The woman, who is identified to be Alexis Sykes, documented it on Snapchat on January 2, 2021. Her motive behind this act is yet to be ascertained. 

DuPage County state’s attorney, Robert Berlin, said, "The charges against Ms Sykes are very disturbing. Dousing a sleeping man with boiling water causing serious, painful injury, as alleged in this case, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Sykes is currently being held on a bond worth $500,000 as she awaits her court appearance set on March 22, 2021, in front of Judge McGimpsey. DuPage County state's attorney's office said that Sykes also described watching her boyfriend's skin fall off his arms as she hid the keys to the car. Her boyfriend's injuries also required skin graft surgery.

Who is Alexis Sykes?

As far as reports go, Sykes is being described as a suburban Chicago woman who is now facing six to 30 years in prison, should she be convicted of the crimes accused of. She was arrested on January 19, 2021, in, Oktibbeha County Mississippi and then was taken back to Illinois. The charges she faces include "aggravated battery by caustic substance and aggravated domestic battery", as per reports.  

On the upload of the video-sharing application, she reportedly wrote, "I kinda feel bad now because he got 2&3rd degree Burns from face to waist & they rush him to burn center but oh well (shrugging shoulder emoji) B**** (emoji blowing kiss) n still cried & beg me to drive him to hospital."

Prosecutors revealed that her boyfriend, although painfully injured, ended up driving himself to the hospital and was later taken to Loyola University Medical Center Burn Unit. He was admitted in the hospital for two weeks.

In a news release, Roselle Police Chief Steve Herron said, “This case was brought to resolution by the hard work and persistence of our detectives, who put the case together and were able to locate this offender who fled the state."

The press release by The County of DuPage revealed a few details about Sykes writing, "Alexis Sykes 22 (d.o.b. 8-12-1998) of the 0-100 block of W. Central Avenue, appeared at a bond hearing yesterday afternoon where Judge Alex McGimpsey set bond in the amount of $500,000 with 10% to apply. On January 8, 2021, a $250,000 arrest warrant was issued for Sykes. She was located in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, on January 19 and extradited back to DuPage County to face the charges against her. She has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery by Caustic Substance (Class X Felony) and two counts of Aggravated Domestic Battery (Class 2 Felony)."
