MILLE LACS COUNTY, MINNESOTA: A Minnesota couple has been charged with second-degree murder for killing a man after giving him a deadly dose of a mixture of meth and fentanyl. The victim's remains were concealed in a tote bag.  Bradley Allen Weyaus and Alexis Elling allegedly killed a man whom they thought was Elling's brother.

The severed human foot in the bag was discovered by a maintenance crew who was cleaning the trash on road on Monday, March 20. While Weyaus was charged on Thursday, March 23, in the death of Rodney Pendegayosh Jr, 25, his partner Elling was charged with aiding an offender and also for acting as an accomplice, reported Law and Crime.

'This whole thing is truly bizarre'

Mille Lacs County Sheriff Kyle Burton said that in his 23 years of service as police, this murder case is one of the most unusual. In a news conference on Tuesday, March 28, Burton said, "This whole thing is truly bizarre. This body was moved multiple places for a period of possibly up to a week before the discovery was made," sheriff said that other arrests are possible in the case.

Cleaning crew found 'a severed foot'

Maintenance workers who were cleaning trash on a highway in Minnesota found the tote bag and tried to move it to load it up, but the bag would not budge. "It’s too heavy. So they hooked a chain onto one of the handles and attached it to their truck. They tried to drag it out, but it broke the handle," the sheriff said.

The workers then checked inside the bag and "they saw what they believed to be a severed human foot," the sheriff added. The crew then closed the bag and called the police, according to Law and Crime.

On further search, police found the suspects as a surveillance video from a few days before the body was found showed them carrying the tote bag out of an apartment and loading it into a vehicle on Sunday, March 19. According to the sheriff, the couple killed the man on January 10 after Weyaus sold the female suspect's brother a fatal mixture of meth and fentanyl. "We can’t confirm that he was 100% involved in it, but his name was mentioned by witnesses. We believe, based on the evidence we’ve gathered so far and the interviews we have conducted, that that was the reason why he was targeted," Burton said.
