Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has predicted that Miami might be wiped away from existence if the Green New Deal isn't passed soon.

The Washington Examiner reported that speaking at an NAACP forum on Wednesday, September 11, the New York Democrat said, "When it comes to climate change, what is not realistic is not responding with a solution on the scale of the crisis — because what's not realistic is Miami not existing in a few years. So we need to be realistic about the problem." The solution to this problem is the Green New Deal, touted the 29-year-old congresswoman.

The freshman lawmaker's proposal titled Green New Deal was first rolled out all the way back in February and was widely criticized for an FAQ section which advocates the denouncement of air travel and meat production. Ocasio-Cortez had said that the particular section was not to be published, and had blamed the accident on a staffer who "had a really bad day at work."

Back in July, Ocasio-Cortez's then-chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti had revealed that the Green New Deal was not "originally a climate thing at all ... we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing." The 33-year-old had also added that the Green New Deal was more about changing the economy for equity purposes. "I think ... it’s dual. It is both rising to the challenge that is existential around climate and it is building an economy that contains more prosperity," he had said, adding: "More sustainability in that prosperity — and more broadly shared prosperity, equitability, and justice throughout."

Ocasio-Cortez made headline once again on Thursday, September 12, when she criticized an advertisement that ran during the day's Democratic debate, for calling her "ignorant" and also setting fire to a photo of her on-screen. The 30-second spot that aired during the debate on ABC, is the first public splash from the New Faces GOP PAC, run by former congressional candidate Elizabeth Heng. Opening with an image of Ocasio-Cortez, who is called by Heng the "face of socialism and ignorance," the ad then proceeds to burn away her face to reveal images of skulls.

"Republicans are running TV ads setting pictures of me on fire to convince people they aren't racist," Ocasio-Cortez had tweeted about the ad, adding: "Life is weird!"
