'Alaska Daily' picks up where it left off as the Eileen Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) and Roz (Grace Dove) investigation of Gloria Nanmac's murder. The episode confirms that the indigenous woman was indeed killed, and the details of which were a bit grisly that you didn't see coming. 'It's Not Personal' is just exactly what the phrase suggests — no hard feelings, it's reporters doing a job.

The secondary storyline is all about Austin Greene (Craig Frank) who covers news of a politician's rather murky financial ties, while also grappling with the custody of his kid. The episode reveals that he's split with his wife but still contributes to his kid's support, even if it means chipping in late. On the other end, Yuna Park (Ami Park) struggles to come to terms with trolls slamming her on Twitter for her story on Jordan Teller.

'Alaska Daily' Episode 2 Review: Hilary Swank's drama adds a touch of heart to hardcore journalism

Is ABC's 'Alaska Daily' based on a true story?

The episode also provides a masterclass in investigative reporting as Roz and Eileen fly down to Meade to look more into a suspect connected with Gloria's murder. They also confront the local police chief who focuses more on his reputation as opposed to solving cases that hit his desk. While at it, the third arc is all about Roz as a journalist. Fiesty and sharp, there is no stopping her as she's one of the few journos at work who's managed to work with Eileen. The latter fancies herself a lone wolf, but with Roz, that reputation changes.

The highlight feature is relentless reporting on Eileen and Roz's part as they press the police chief only to get him to show his ugly side. The duo runs the story and is praised for some excellent reporting. So far, 'Alaska Daily' is all about one lesson in journalism per episode, and the larger picture never takes a backseat. The ABC drama continues strong, fueled by some crisp writing and great cast performances.

'Alaska Daily' airs Thursdays at 10 pm ET on ABC.
