'Agents of SHIELD' Season 7 Episode 5 Preview: A peek at May's abilities and the return of General Rick Stoner
With Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) joining Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) & Co. the agents are off to stop the next imminent Chronicom attack and that lands them in the 1970s. There's the return of an old character and also some exciting easter eggs in the form of an exclusive sneak peek ahead of the episode.
The return of General Rick Stoner (Patrick Warburton) with a Tom Selleck mustache raises interesting questions. He was last seen in Season 5's 'Option Two' in the form of a video recording when the team visited the Lighthouse for the first time. Stoner was renowned for Project Reclamation, a solid contingency plan in case the world goes through any cataclysmic event. And now the General is back in Season 7. The episode titled, 'Trout in the Milk' sees Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) use her empathic emotional skills to lure Stoner into extracting some information on a secret project.
One of the highlights of the clip is when May asks, "How close is Insight to completion?" Fans will recognize this as the name of the global surveillance service using three helicarriers in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and Stoner hints at some interesting developments as he calls the launch a new birth of freedom set three years from that period, 1976 to be precise. In related news, the episode also sees the return of Enoch who was stranded in the '30s earlier in the series.

The official synopsis reads: "After a bumpy landing in the disco decade, the team – Daniel Sousa in tow – reunites with more than one familiar face at the SHIELD hangout and discovers exactly how to dismantle the Chronicoms’ latest plan. But when they get too close for comfort, the Zephyr unexpectedly leaps forward again, this time to a date pivotal to not only the future of SHIELD but to the future of Director Mack as well.”
According to the synopsis, it does seem like there will be just one episode dedicated to the '70s. However, the Insight storyline might just lead the agents back to where it all started in 2014. And by the looks of it, Mack (Henry Simmons) might be in danger. Only time will tell what's in store for the agents.
'Agents of SHIELD' Season 7 airs Wednesdays 10 pm ET on ABC.
