MOSCOW, IDAHO: The probable cause affidavit filed against Idaho murder suspect Bryan Christopher Kohberger has finally been revealed. The document, which claims that the quadruple-murder accused was ‘seen’ by one of the survivors, has left the internet shocked. The affidavit also contains other chilling details, such as the phone data pointing out that Kohberger was in the area of the murders at least 12 times before the killings and that the suspect left behind a knife sheath with his DNA on it. Internet users are now speculating why Kohberger left a witness.
Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 20, and Madison Mogen, 20, were stabbed to death on November 13 on the second and third floors of their off-campus rental home on King Road. Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen, the two roommates who were sleeping on the first floor, survived. Mortensen, identified as DM in court records, appears to be the only witness who saw the killer. Meanwhile, Kohberger was denied bail in his first appearance in the Idaho court on January 5, Thursday.

Reacting to the probable cause affidavit, a Reddit user theorized that Kohberger might have taken a "circuitous route" to "dump the evidence in a rural area." "One kind of boring detail that stuck out was the circuitous route that BK took to drive home from Moscow. He was out of cell service for about an hour and not seen on camera for about the same. When he turned on his cell again he was far south of Moscow and Pullman. Was this to dump evidence in a rural area? This was the map provided in the affidavit," wrote the Redditor.
Other seemed to agree as one wrote, "Yep someone is going to randomly find a bag of bloody clothe and knife one day or its underwater." "Agreed. There's something to that. He could have been home in 15 minutes. He drove for an hour plus afterward. And he turns his phone back on? Very odd," another pointed out.
'Those poor kids were likely awake'
A user expressed how disturbed they were reading the affidavit. "Anyone else feel completely numb after reading it, knowing those poor kids were likely awake and knew what was going on I can't stop thinking of poor Xana now, it sounds like she suffered for a while their poor families hearing all this," wrote the user. "This completely shatters the notion that the kids died quickly in their sleep and that is so utterly heartbreaking," added another.
Another was surprised that Kohberger left a witness. "I’m extremely shocked that DM saw him but I’m even more shocked that he spared her life. Leaving a witness is BOLD," they wrote. A reply read, "He probably left ASAP assuming the cops were coming."
One user suggested that Kohberger must have been a suspect for a while. "This leads me to believe Bryan was a main suspect as of Nov 25th. I’m sure they built their case even stronger against him and they have details for later on that we don’t see in this affidavit," wrote the user.
Several users pointed out the evidence and called it a "sloppy murder." "So they: Found his DNA on a knife sheath that was left next to Maddie’s body, and there is a 99% confirmation that it belongs to him. A witness in the house saw him leave, and their description matches BK’s appearance. They found footage of the white car, and it was registered in BK’s name at the university. They also tracked his phone’s cached cellular data, in it showing his phone’s location where they found that there were 12 occasions before Nov in which he passed the home of the 4 victims. He stalked them essentially. Would love to see what kind of defense he has for this information. Enjoy jail time!" wrote a user.
"Incredibly sloppy murder... was this even planned? Seems pretty impulsive. Maybe he meant to kill one girl, but she was sharing a bedroom, so it turned into 2, and then 4. Seemed like it took forever and was loud. Then he left a knife sheath behind? And also an eye-witness? Wtf. It really couldn't be much sloppier. I didn't think the case against him would be quite so strong, it's also a little spooky they didn't catch him way sooner, considering how terrible he was at covering his tracks," added another.
