This story contains spoilers for Season 2 Episode 11 titled 'We're the Howards'

When Jason Ritter's Eric made an entry into the lives of Maggie Bloom (Allison Miller) and Gary Mendez's (James Roday) lives, we knew it was not going to lead to anything nice and warm. And it did not. Eric apparently had Maggie's brother Chad's heart, which formed an unspoken bond between them, which eventually brought her closer to him and away from Gary. This led to increasing tensions between him and Maggie. While it wasn't directly related to Eric, the differences between them led to their break up.

With the show's return from its fall break, we know that there is little that has changed between Gary and Maggie. Despite being separated, the two of them still miss each other and find themselves pining for the other. At the same time, Maggie is still closer than ever with Eric. In the previous episode, she also initiates a kiss (and then awkwardly excused herself from his house).

It is then revealed that Eric had indeed been hiding something this whole time — he doesn't actually have Chad's heart. He doesn't have a transplant at all!

In a promo released for the upcoming episode, Gary is shown telling Maggie that he just knows there is something wrong about Eric (does he know they have kissed?) In the next scene, he is shown telling Eric he knows that he is hiding something. He then proceeds to try and see the scar on his chest by forcefully lifting his shirt, which obviously leads to an altercation given Gary's temper these days. Then the last shot reveals that he is arrested.

Could Gary have figured the truth out before his arrest? We will have to wait to know.

Elsewhere, Regina and Rome continue to move forward with the adoption process in the upcoming episode. At the same time, they are thrown into helping Delilah with a troubled Sophie who still refuses to give her mother the time of her day.

'A Million Little Things' airs on ABC on Thursdays at 10/ 9c.
