CORDON LIGHTFOOT: Lori Lightfoot slammed for dancing on Chicago streets amid rising crime rate

In the first four weeks of 2023, the crime rate in Chicago is up a staggering 61% when compared to the same period last year

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is being slammed over a video of her dancing on the streets on Lunar New Year parade on January 22. The video of the mayor dancing along a drumline surfaced on the internet in the midst of increasing crime rate and the loss of flagship stores in the city's shopping district 'Magnificent Mile' that is now one third empty. 

In the first four weeks of 2023, the crime rate in Chicago is up a staggering 61% when compared to the same period last year. In addition to the climbing crime rates, huge flagship stores like Macy's, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Gap and Uniqlo on the Magnificent Mile shut shop after Covid shutdowns and continous riots - the vacancy rate now sits at 30% under Lightfoot, according to the Daily Mail.

Lightfoot is just four weeks away from election which will take place on February 28. According to reports, there are nine candidates in this heated race and a winner will likely be decided in a runoff between the top two on April 4 since it is highly unlikely that anyone will exceed the 50% threshold. Some of Lightfoot's opponents include Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia, Brandon Johnson, who is endorsed by the teachers' union, Paul Vallas, who is endorsed by the police union, Willie Wilson, a wealthy businessman, and city council member Sophia King. 

Internet has slammed Lightfoot for her ignorance and delusional attitude. One Twitter user said, "She’s been a disgrace and a disaster from day one. Her inauguration speech set the tone for 4 years of fighting and failures." Another user said, "So, is that what Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is celebrating there and dancing about, 2,278 homicides and over 9,000 in the city of Chicago shot?" While another added, "Garbage for a Mayor. We can do better Chicago". One user said, "A foolish clown pandering to a community she has no real connection to and is actually doing a disservice." Another user said, 'She has zero consistency. Every city worker hates her. The black community is fleeing in droves. Lincoln Park/Lakeview hates her because of the crime increase there(and they traditionally vote the most in this city). She’s done."
