Did Jovi Dufren’s dad slut-shame Yara Zaya on '90 Day Fiance'? Here's why she called Americans 'stupid'

Between an unexpected pregnancy and constant fights with her fiancé, looks like there is a lot of family drama in store for Yara Zaya

Yara Zaya and Jovi Dufren can't seem to catch a break on '90 Day Fiance'. Every week, the couple seems to fight over something new. With Zaya confirming that she is in fact pregnant, the couple began discussing their future, but couldn't seem to agree on much, especially since Dufren's job keeps him away from months on end. Dufren isn't keen on leaving his job, especially since it pays well, plus he's passionate about what he does.

Zaya has been having a tough time trying to adjust to New Orleans, but her lack of friends in the area and general unfamiliarity seems to make this harder for her. This week's episode saw the couple go to Dufren's family home for an engagement party celebration of sorts. Zaya was not keen on attending or celebrating. She was exhausted on account of the pregnancy and upset that her family wasn't here to celebrate with them. But seeing that she hadn't met Dufren's father yet, Dufren urged her to come along and promised that the celebration would be a small one. The couple also agreed to keep the pregnancy a secret for now.

Zaya finally got a chance to meet her future father-in-law, Monty. The older Dufren has a job similar to his son's and spends long periods away from home. The two began talking about how Zaya is adjusting to the US and in her usual fashion, Zaya was blunt about the fact that she didn't like it at all and she didn't feel entirely safe while out on her own. Dufren's father was quick to point out that there were parts of New Orleans that she shouldn't visit, especially with the way she dresses. He mentioned that he's seen her photographs online and that her clothing might be an issue. Zaya responded that her vacation photos are not the way she dresses up regularly, especially since those images are often at beaches.

Fans were quick to call out this odd exchange. "But why was Jovi's dad checking out Yara's bikini pics on Facebook. #90DayFiance," tweeted a fan. "I always assume when a man gets that controlling about a woman showing skin, it’s just some weird projection because he hates how attracted he is to her. Like that villain in Hunchback of Notre Dame who’s obsessed with killing Esmeralda because she was corrupting him with lust," said another.

The conversation went further down south when Dufren's mother Gwen declared that she knows "Ukrainian women just want to get to America". Zaya was quick to counter that this was never her dream. Gwen then asked, "A lot of Ukrainian women try and get a guy to get them to America, am I right?" But Yara was having none of it. "I don’t like that so much hearing because it’s about my country. It’s kind of same stereotypes like many people think that Americans are so stupid," she responded.

Twitter was thrilled with Zaya's response. "Watching Yara stand up for herself after Jovi and his parents make horrendous generalizations about her and her country #90DayFiance," tweeted a fan. "Yaaaas, Yara! Stand up for yourself girl! Some of these parents are so rude! #90DayFiance," chimed another.

The episode just went on to get more problematic for the couple when Zaya made it clear that staying in the US was never a part of the long term plan and that she's likely to move to Budapest so that it's easier for her family to visit too. Gwen's concern was that she wouldn't get to visit her grandchildren and Dufren didn't see himself staying there long-term. Fans found it hypocritical, that the Dufrens' didn't want to stay too far away from each other, but that sentiment wasn't shared when it came to Zaya living away from her family.

Twitter was quick to support Zaya, seeing that she pointed that not everyone wants to stay in the US. "Jovi’s family think Yara is suckering him, but nobody ever thinks about Americans suckering foreign people into a false ideal lifestyle. He thinks Budapest is a vacation spot, but maybe New Orleans is the vacation spot. #90DayFiance," tweeted a fan. "I thought Yara was trying to use Jovi to stay in America but now she may want to move to Europe it’s a problem.. Budapest is a beautiful city ... I have lived there so not a bad idea Yara... plus you will be away from his crazy parents #90DayFiance," agreed another.

With Dufren's friends and father convinced that he can't leave the 'Jovi Ways' (a combination of strippers and alcohol), Dufren is not sure when and how to break the news to them about the fact that Zaya is already pregnant. The situation just escalates when Zaya brings up Dufren's drinking habits as they get ready for the party, The two fight relentlessly in the cab, with Zaya calling Dufren a 'fucking alcoholic' and proceeded to cry. She even said that had it not been for the pregnancy she'd be back in Ukraine, to which Dufren replied that she wishes she was that lucky. While it's heavily implied that the couple already has a baby girl together, the lack of Dufren in her latest Valentine's Day Instagram post has us questioning the couple's status together. Looks like we'll just have to wait until the drama unfolds.
