Girl, 8, dies due to medical emergency in US Border Patrol custody in Texas, identity yet to be revealed
HARLINGEN, TEXAS: A tragic news report is coming from Texas where an eight-year-old girl has died after suffering 'medical emergency' while in US Border Patrol custody. As per authorities, the girl and her family were staying at a facility in the city of Harlingen near the Mexico border. The tragic death was reported on Wednesday, May 17, when no further details have been shared about the girl’s identity, said a statement from Customs and Border Protection.
"Emergency Medical Services were called to the station and transported her to the local hospital where she was pronounced dead," the statement read, adding that the Office of Professional Responsibility is in the process of carrying out the investigation. It is a standard protocol in the case of a death. The death is being reported just days after a 17-year-old migrant from Honduras died at a facility run by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement in Florida, reports NBC News.

'Title 42 was lifted on May 12'
The deceased was without any companion, as per reports. He was identified as Angel Eduardo Maradiaga Espinoza by the Honduran government which called for a thorough investigation in the case. Blas Nuñez-Neto, assistant secretary for border & immigration policy at the Department for Homeland Security told the press that there’s been a significant decline in ‘encounters’ with migrants after Title 42 was lifted on May 12.
"This represents a decrease of 56% or less than half of the average encountered in the four days leading up to the title the lifting of Title 42 when the Border Patrol encountered an average of 10,100 individuals each day," he said.
