77 and fabulous: Helen Mirren never regretted being childless except on one emotional occasion
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: At 77, Helen Mirren is still as fabulous as ever, and she proved this when she reportedly took some time off her busy schedule in Mexico after promoting her latest movie, ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’. During her solo vacation, Mirren was seen relaxing in a chic one-piece black swimsuit.
The award-winning actress was spotted in Los Cabos lounging under the sun in a swimsuit and reading glasses, per Page Six. Her fans have showered her with compliments lately for her good looks and fit body as one fan commented, “Age is a state of mind. Looking good sweetheart.” Another one wrote, “She is beautiful and I think very classy.”

‘I never felt the need for a child’
Another fan remarked, “She is a STUNNING & BEAUTIFUL Lady .... A GREAT ACTRESS TOO !!!” However, one user pointed out, “Yes she is beautiful but she never had children.” Another user shared the same reason, “She never had kids is her secret lol.”
Reportedly, ‘The Queen’ star decided to not be a mother when she was young. She told AARP in 2014, “I never felt the need for a child and never felt the loss of it. I’d always put my work before anything.” However, the actress loves children. In 2016, she told Sunday Times Culture Magazine, “I love children, they are so funny and so sweet, but I never wanted my own.”
Mirren said, “I have never had a moment of regret about not having children. Well, I lie. When I watched the movie, Parenthood, I sobbed for about 20 minutes. It was about the whole story of being a parent and how it never stops, even when you’re a grandparent. I realized I would never experience that, and for about 20 minutes, I sobbed at the loss of that and the fact that I never experienced it. Then I got over it and I was happy again.”
‘Please don't smoke, please’
Besides, speaking about her flawless skin, the ‘Woman in Gold’ actress believed in good eating habits and basic skin care. She became the cover star of PEOPLE's 2022 Beautiful Issue. At the time, she reportedly said, “I used to go to bed with all my makeup on when I was young, just because I couldn't be bothered to take it off. Now I do take off my makeup at night. Certainly, as you get older, you are more careful of what you do both inside of your body and outside of your body.”
She continued, “If there is a mantra I would pass onto a younger generation it would be to take more care of what goes into your body — please don't smoke, please — because those are the things that last. A beautiful mascara or lipstick is going to make you look great for the evening. But the things that really last are to have great skin, to be fairly fit — nothing extreme — and to eat healthily.”
‘I love castor oil’
Speaking about staying fit, Mirren noted, “I try to do a little exercise almost every day, but I go in and out. I'm so hopeless at self-discipline. But when I hunker down, I can do it. I try to do at least 20 minutes, a bit of stretching, and stuff like that. I don't do anything exhausting; I can't stand the treadmill. I always think: Do everything, but don't do too much of anything. That's my idea.”
“I love to have a drink, and I love to eat a donut, but I don't eat six donuts. And I don't have a bottle of wine. My husband would argue with that but I try not to drink a bottle of wine,” the Oscar winner explained, adding, “I love castor oil. I use a little bit in my hair—very, very little. I use it on my fingernails. I use it on my skin. Castor oil's amazing. A tiny bit on your hair gives it a little shine, a little separation. [I use it on my] eyebrows, eyelashes, fingernails—just rub it in.”
‘We have other stuff, which is just as powerful as beauty’
Despite being a beauty icon, Mirren does not like the term “beauty." She told PEOPLE, “Don't get me wrong — I love beauty and I love looking at beautiful things. But I don't like the word beauty [as it's] associated with the beauty industry—makeup and products, skincare, and all the rest of it — because I think it excludes the vast majority of us who are not beautiful.”
“There are incredibly beautiful people in the world, and it's an absolute delight to look at them, male or female. Beautiful people are a wonder to behold. But most of us are not beautiful. We have other stuff, which is just as powerful as beauty. And I would like to see us celebrate those things … I love the word swagger because I think swagger means I'm confident in myself, I'm presenting myself to the world, I'm enjoying the world around me. I think what is called the beauty industry should be called the swagger industry. We're giving people swagger,” she asserted.
