Despite the global health crisis from the novel coronavirus which doesn’t seem to rest and the number of lives it claimed in the US, Americans are finding ways to celebrate the Fourth of July, which marks the declaration of Independence of the country in 1776. People are coming together even if virtually to celebrate the holiday with music, fireworks and a lot more.

However, taking into consideration everything that has occurred in the US in the recent past, be it for the Black Lives Matter movement or the spike in fatalities caused by Covid-19, the country is being called out for its ill-treatment of its citizens. On July 3, Internet users took to Twitter to trend #4thofJuly2020 for reasons unexpected. A significant number of people have expressed that every country deserves a chance to celebrate its independence and not just the US, referring to the extravaganza that goes into celebrating the Fourth of July. Along with #4thofJuly2020, Twitter users also used to  #AllCountriesMatter to point out that its high time the US stopped making a big deal of their Independence Day.

And some of them on Twitter said that every country matters expect the US, owing to its reputation. One user wrote, “Wow, #AllCountriesMatter except for the ones that constantly violate human rights, don't allow people to express thoughts freely, have animal cruelty embedded in culture, make children join armies and fight in wars... they definitely have some work to do before celebrating.”

Internet users have also expressed that every country that has gained independence from colonization deserves to celebrate and not just the US. One tweet read, “#AllCountriesMatter American Independence day much like "thanksgiving" is an insult to the people whose lands were stolen, all so the world could be given Mariah f*cking Carey.” Meanwhile, one social media user wrote, “This 4th of July remember that the US isn't the only country built on hypocrisy, slavery, and colonialism. #AllCountriesMatter” and another added, "Dear USA don't be selfish."

However, a few had a rather different opinion to express. One noted that celebrating the independence of the US isn’t disrespectful or hurting other nations, so one should be allowed to remember the special day. “I say this regarding #AllCountriesMatter because it downplays American culture and it is actively looking for the bad. American can celebrate independence. That doesn't mean they are shutting on other nations,” a person reasoned.
