South Korean singer Ok Taecyeon of the band 2 PM will be discharged from his mandatory two year Army service next week. Reports on Friday said that Taecyeon is completing his 20 months of military service as an active-duty soldier on May 16 after enlisting in September of 2017.

He received a plaque of recognition at a ceremony in Seoul, and was praised for serving the military with dedication and diligence. "I am very honoured and grateful for this recognition, which I accept on behalf of many other soldiers," Ok said, adding, "I have learned a lot during my time here. I will keep trying my best till I complete my military service."

He plans to briefly greet fans and press after he leaves the base, and has expressed his desire to continue as a 2PM member and actor following his discharge.

When he first enlisted back in 2017, Taecyeon was roundly applauded by the public for voluntarily enlisting in the army despite being a permanent US resident.

Despite being diagnosed with a herniated disc pain not long before, Taecyeon declared himself eligible for service as a full-time military officer after undergoing a period of surgery and physical therapy.

He was recommended to appear in the Armed Forces Day event in October 2018 because of his exemplary behaviour and dedication to his service. In February, he was given an early promotion to sergeant status on the basis of his outstanding conduct.

On his return from military service, Taecyeon will be working with 51K, his new agency with whom he signed with early last year after he decided not to re-sign with JYP Entertainment last July.

However, he will continue promoting with 2PM.  51K also shared, “With the experience, he has built over the years, Taecyeon, who is currently carrying out his military service, is happy about his new start with 51K. He vowed to return to the industry more matured so that he may repay all the fans for their love. We will do our best together so that Taecyeon, who will be active not only in Korea but around the world, and his many talents may shine even more.”
