Major spoilers for '13 Reasons Why' Season 4

It's a new day of hope and achievement levels unlocked for fans of '13 Reasons Why'. The fourth and final season is finally here, and by the looks of it, the Zalex sub-section of the show's massive fandom is already thrilled - all because of a two-second kiss.

Right at the beginning of the season, in its very first episode, characters Alex Standall (Miles Heizer) and Zach Dempsey (Ross Butler) kick off their killer chemistry that is somehow still platonic, even though everybody and their mother has practically been shipping them. The two became friends as Zach kept helping Alex learn to get back on his feet again - literally. Their friendship soon caught the eye of fans who were certain they would become endgame or amount to something more than just friends.

And sure enough, the Netflix series gave them the Zalex kiss they've been waiting for, to such iconic extents, that #ZALEXFOREVER is trending on Twitter as of writing. The kiss happened as Alex in an attempt to 'live' his life, indulges not Zach's crazy impulsive habits. Both Alex and Zach are currently swimming under the risk of getting busted for Bryce's murder; but while Alex's spiral has made him reconnect with his sexuality, Zach's has sent him down an alcoholic fall. So Zach, in his most Zach way, makes Alex walk along the ledge of a rather tall building. When Alex almost loses his balance, Zach pulls him down right in time, and our of the sheer adrenaline rush of the moment, Alex kisses him. And Zach kisses back.

This has caused a massive buzz amid Zalex nation, who are celebrating their dreams coming true. Even though they know in the aftermath, Alex and Zach aren't in fact endgame, and end up with other people, a fan shared: "Know they aren’t going to end up together, but at least we got what we all waited for." Another shared: "Waited for seasons for this! I knew there’s something between them. My ship has finally sailed. Zach and Alex just liplocked." A third fan noted how short-lived the kiss was before Zach turned Alex down and he apologized for the abrupt act, sharing: "The two-second kiss. And the world stopped...for a while. Oh my God, I love these two! #Zalex for real!!"

Noting all the Pride month relevance in Alex coming out, a fan wrote: "I don't think it's a coincidence that they premiere season 4 at #pridemonth and they also make so many references to Zach and Alex ... Obviously #Zalex is going to become an official couple.." Another shared: "Yes! Give us [gay people] what we deserve!" A third fan announced: "Zalex nation RISE! When Alex kissed Zach my soul left my body. Honestly, did your heart stop when they kissed or are you normal??" And they weren't alone. "I have literally a mental breakdown because of #Zalex and the episodes are not even out," said a fan, freaking out. Critics however noted: "#13ReasonsWhy tried to queerbait me with #Zalex into watching the 4th season but then I read they're not even endgame so... nice try not falling for that again."

'13 Reasons Why' Season 4 is up for streaming now only on Netflix.
