The investigation into the Donald Trump-led 'plot' to stage a coup is getting bigger and bigger after the Select Committee decided to subpoena 11 House Republicans. On December 14, the House voted to hold Mark Meadows in contempt for not deposing, and just hours later, it was revealed the January 6 Committee was going after members of Congress. It comes as Meadows' documents reveal the shocking extent of the coup.

As we reported, Meadows worked closely with Trump in the buildup to January 6, even telling the then-president the National Guard would be deployed to protect "pro-Trump people." Other documents reveal that Fox News anchors Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, and Brian Kilmeade texted Meadows, urging Trump to call for an end to the insurrection. Emails and texts also indicate Donald Trump Jr. attempted to call for an end to the mayhem, long before Trump conceded and did so.

During the insurrection, it wasn't just Fox News anchors texting Meadows, but also members of Congress. The then Chief of Staff reportedly received "dozens upon dozens of panicked messages" from lawmakers who were trapped inside the Capitol. Between that, and the emails, messages, and documents outlying their plan to stage the coup, it seems Republicans in Congress knew a lot more about what was happening than they let on.

11 GOPers subpoenaed by committee

It's unclear who all were in touch with Trump, Meadows, and others inside the White House, but it appears the House Select Committee has narrowed down on a shortlist of possible names. Tristan Snell, a lawyer, and commentator for CNN tweeted on December 14, "BREAKING - 11 House Republicans’ phone and social media records subpoenaed by January 6 committee: Lauren Boebert Andy Biggs Mo Brooks Madison Cawthorn Matt Gaetz Louie Gohmert Paul Gosar Marjorie Taylor Greene Jody Hice Jim Jordan Scott Perry."

The development hasn't been confirmed by the committee itself, which also has a presence on Twitter. Snell is one of the first to break the news. We've reached out to the committee for comment and will update you when we hear back. Notably, many of these names such as Boebert, Greene, Gosar, and Brooks were first named in an October 2021 Rolling Stone article. The article said top staffers of these members received "planning briefs" from those organizing the attack.

Notably, all those subpoenaed are members of the House of Representatives, no Senators have been asked to turn over their records, yet. In the meantime, the news has quickly taken over Twitter, with Snell's tweet racking up over 6,000 likes and nearly 2,000 retweets. Users also had plenty to say about the development.

'There's not enough popcorn in the world'

"Somebody doesn’t look happy … This is the “sh!t I have to turn over my phone “ look," one user mocked with a photo of Rep Greene. Another commented, "I suspect this is not a fishing expedition. I believe they are pulling a thread based on information already provided to them." Another trolled Boebert, tweeting, "Ten bucks says Lauren tries to flush her phone down the toilet thinking they won’t be able to see what her Twitter says without it."

"Is it just me or does shit really seem to be coming together the last couple of days?? Like the dam is about to break...." one user commented. Another lamented, "There's not enough popcorn in the world......" Another trolled, "Welp. We have officially been warned that a handful of the regular loud and crazy ones will be louder and crazier for the next little bit. Thank you for that."

So far, neither of those named have responded to the news, and the committee is yet to formally announce the subpoenas. The last update is from before the news broke, confirming Meadows had been held in contempt of Congress.
