LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 1 premiered on HBO on June 16, 2024. The fan-favorite fantasy thriller immediately became the talk of the town as fans started looking for hints and easter eggs foreshadowing the events of Season 2. 

'House of the Dragon' Season 2 is expected to be about a succession war between Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) who is backed by his mother Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the Hightower house and Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D' Arcy) who was the declared heir to the throne. 

The first episode was majorly about setting the stage for the war as Rhaenyra overcame her grief to seek vengeance against Aegon and Alicent. Many events from the first episode foreshadowed future happenings not just from 'House of the Dragon' but also from 'Game of Thrones'. Here's a look at a few easter eggs that you might have missed in Episode 1. 

Opening Credits

Viewers were treated to a different opening credit video to go with the iconic Ramin Djawadi music. The opening credits had threads describing the Targaryen history and important events that took place in the first season. 

It also showcased snippets of important events that are expected to take place this season. It foreshadowed the blood and destruction that is going to follow in the Targaryen house because of the Dance of the Dragons. 

Cregan Stark's Valyrian steel greatsword 'Ice'

Winterfell and House Stark made a return in 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 1 and with them, there was a return for 'Ice', the Valyrian Steel Greatsword. 

In 'Game of Thrones', we see the sword being used by Eddard Stark (Sean Bean) after which the sword gets cut and given to Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) 

Corlys Velaryon's fading health

We see Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) getting ready to command his ships into battle but we see him not in the best of health. As per 'Fire and Blood', Corlys will face a serious health issue this season. 

The health issues will see him trying to find a successor for himself at Driftmark since his heir Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan) is presumed to be dead. 

Alyn of Hull

Alyn of Hull (Abubaker Salim) makes an appearance in the first episode of the second season. The character is going to become very important in the future as he will succeed Corlys Velaryon as the Lord of Tides if the events of the book are followed. 

There are speculations in the book about Alyn of Hull being the illegitimate son of Corlys Velaryon. The uncomfortable chemistry is visible for the audience to see in their conversation. 

Scorpions

Fans of 'Game of Thrones' would remember scorpions as the weapons used to combat dragons. It was used to kill one of Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) dragons in the show. 

With the war looming, scorpions could be an important addition to the armory for the Green faction as they take on the dragons of the Black faction. 

Gullet

Gullet is an important water channel in 'House of the Dragon' and it will become immensely important in the future as the Battle of Gullet is one of the biggest battles in Dance of the Dragons. 

The battle is going to be hugely significant and will claim many lives including that of Prince Jacaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett)
