WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden has been attacked online once again for his apparent bizarre behavior while welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House on Thursday, December 1. Emmanuel is in the US with wife Brigitte Macron to reportedly discuss a range of issues.

As per a senior US official, the “visit is about the personal relationship, the alliance relationship”. The Thursday event, on December 1, saw the POTUS greeting the French leader after giving his speech, insisting on the significance of the relationship the two nations share. Biden then reportedly turned towards Emmanuel to shake hands and the two continued to laugh and talk.

However, the awkwardness began to happen after the 46th president did not let go of Emmanuel’s hand while the latter seemingly looked confused. Biden then went on to look towards the audience, froze for a few seconds even as his French counterpart kept looking at him, confused by the long handshake.

The strange interaction between the two world politicians has attracted a lot of eyeballs with a user tweeting, “I was waiting for the President to move in for a sniff.” The second user wrote, “He blanked... thought he was with Corn Pop for a sec.. or 42.” The third one sarcastically commented, “I thought they were going to kiss!” The fourth one shared, “The handlers probably told him to 'pause' for the photo op. Poor guy. 'Pause' is just too broad of a concept for him. The instruction shb, ‘Take Macron's hand, count to three, let go.’”

“He can’t believe he actually was shaking a real person’s hand. He didn’t want the moment to ever end,” one comment suggested jokingly. Another comment was “I bet Macron cannot wait to get the hell out of here.” “It's elder abuse the way they push that man out there everyday as if he's really the President.🤣” a tweet read and the second tweet added, “Why didn't he let it go? From 29-41 sec mark. People with dementia often freeze like this.”

Meanwhile, on December 1, a state dinner was also held at the White House for the guests, where Biden and Emmanuel made a toast together. The American commander-in-chief also said, as reported by The Daily Mail, “France was our first ally. The first country to fly an American flag after our revolution. I actually grew up in a place called New Castle, Delaware County, near Brandywine Battlefield. Where a young man named Marquis de Lafayette fought for the American cause and became close friends with a fellow named George Washington.”

“Later Lafayette wrote of their friendship, and I quote, ‘It was such simplicity that two friends were united by the greatest of the causes.’ Today, we're still united, by the greatest of causes: democracy, liberty, equality, opportunity and freedom. We stand together against oppression and injustice, we stick up for one another in our democratic values to which Washington and Lafayette dedicated their lives. And we still strive to build a world that's worthy of our highest hopes and of our future, knowing that we can always, always count on one another as allies and friends,” Biden added.
