Candace Owens is facing a second legal blow in a span of a month. In November last year she slapped Facebook's fact-checkers with a lawsuit alleging they are "activists for the left that shut down your speech if they don't like it." She claimed her page was being unfairly demonetized and she sued fact-checkers for defamation and last month a Delaware judge dismissed the lawsuit. Fast forward to late July, former congressional candidate Kimberly Klacik slapped Owens with a $20M lawsuit accusing the pro-Trumper and anti-BLM conservative pundit for defamation.

Owens is no stranger to judgment, she attracts a fair amount of it for her views that she expresses quite boldly. Candace Owens trends on Twitter every week just like #ImpeachBidenNow and #LockHimUp - the popular hashtag used when Donald Trump is being discussed on the platform which also banned him permanently. Last week, Owens blasted the American Booksellers Association saying they propagated "unspeakable, explicit racism" after her book 'Blackout: How Black America Can Make its Second Escape from the Democrat Plantation' was criticised by ABA's CEO Allison Hill in a email. Owens sought a public apology after becoming aware that Hill shot out an email apologizing for promoting the book initially which she now brands as 'racist'.

Who is Kimberly Klacik and why is she suing Candace Owens?

Kimberly Klacik is a former Republican nominee for Maryland's 7th Congressional District. The businesswoman and politician is married to Jeffrey Klacik since 2013. The duo are parents to a daughter and them as a family have maintained a low profile over the years. Kimberly had to drop out of school because she was an easy target for bullies due to her alopecia but the lack of a degree didn't stand in way of her running for congress in Maryland.

Owens and Klacik first started feuding on June 18 this year after the former said Biden making Juneteenth a federal holiday was him trying to "repackage segregation". She didn't stop at that and made further tweets which incited a response from Klacik. The arguments between them resumed once again when the women criticized each other through several Instagram posts. This prompted Owens to talk about Klacik in detail on her show she hosts on conservative news website The Daily Wire. In a 45-minute video which was released at the end of June, Owens had made several accusations against Klacik.

She said Klacik used to work as a stripper in Baltimore, Maryland, saying she received information from a stripper who was the GOPer's former colleague. Owens claimed the former congressional candidate took cocaine at the club which she bought using campaign funds. Klacik addressed the accusations in a 30-minute interview on 'The Armstrong Williams Show' where she said it was the first and last time she would address the matter.

"If [Owens] was the detective that she pretends to be, she would know that all of the clubs in Baltimore City were shut down due to the pandemic in Baltimore," Klacik said of the allegations she bought cocaine using campaign funds. "So there was no possible way anybody was partying in a club or able to launder money into a club that was completely closed," she said further adding she was standing in support of women in the occupation who were feeling attacked by Owens' comments.

Klacik is now seeking $20M, an amount much higher than Owens' estimated net worth of $3M,  in damages for making false allegations that cost her many opportunities. Klacik's legal team alleged in the suit that Owens accused the former candidate of campaign fraud and of being a "madame" for a strip club. Her attorney Jacob Frenkel told the Sun, “Baseless character assassination has no place in political dialogue. The defendant chose to use her huge social media platform to attack a respected Baltimore political figure; we are using the proper forum — the power of the courts — to respond. The detail in Ms. Klacik’s lawsuit speaks for itself.”
