PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Phoenix police officer Morgan Bullis, who faced a near-fatal encounter back in March when she was shot while responding to a hit-and-run call, has remarkably transformed her ordeal into a powerful advocacy for blood donation.

According to AZ Family, on Tuesday, November 28, emergency responders from various regions within the Valley convened at the Hall of Fame Museum in Phoenix with the objective of encouraging increased participation in blood donation.

Officer Bullis emphasizes urgent need for blood donations

December is a month which usually sees reduced blood donations as people stay preoccupied in other things. Bullis urges people to donate blood, highlighting its potential in saving lives, especially for fellow officers facing critical situations.

“It’s very important to me,” Bullis said. “If brothers and sisters (other law enforcement) need that blood, that blood is available to them because God forbid they do go down and that makes a difference of them going home that night. That is highly important to me.”

Officer Bullis rebounds from shooting attack and returns to duty

Despite the "ambush-style" attack, Bullis has made an impressive recovery and has returned to her duties on patrol.

The shooting incident, characterized as a violent and unprovoked attack, left Bullis wounded, having sustained a gunshot on her hip and facial injuries from bullet fragments.

Joseph Lopez, a 29-year-old individual, allegedly initiated the attack, firing multiple shots at Bullis while she was in her patrol vehicle.

Lopez, identified as a documented member of a criminal street gang, was subsequently apprehended and booked into Maricopa County Jail.

Miraculously, Bullis emerged from the hospital's care later in March and expressed her enthusiasm for resuming service to her community.

Phoenix Police Department celebrates Officer Bullis' recovery

The Phoenix Police Department lauded Bullis' recovery in an announcement and shared a heartening welcome-back video via their X (formerly Twitter) platform.

Now, Bullis stands as a fervent advocate for blood donation, emphasizing its critical role in supporting law enforcement and first responders in times of need.

Amidst the recovery process and her return to duty, Bullis has turned her focus to advocating for blood donations, aiming to ensure the availability of this vital resource for law enforcement and emergency responders.

As she champions this cause, her resilience serves as a testament to the unwavering dedication of those who serve their communities selflessly, even in the face of adversity.
