She is bold and unapologetic. Vanessa Montes made hearts skip a beat as soon as she stepped into the world of ‘All American’. Not only is she the Beverly Hills High football team coach, Coach Montes’ (Alexandra Barreto) daughter, she shares a deep connection with Asher Adams (Cody Christian) after the two spent time together over summer. Spilling secrets and sprinkling more drama, her character has sparked quite a scandal but has been shrouded in mystery.

In an exclusive interview with MEAWW, Alondra Delgado lets the cat out of the bag and teases new ‘All American’ plot twists. The actress — who earlier starred in ‘Vida’ and ‘Mayans MC’ — has had dreams of being in front of the camera since she was four! Did you know she has five little tattoos that are always covered while filming or that she travels to Puerto Rico every year and her name is inspired by a bird “Alauda Arvensis” that sings a lot?

Here's all the scoop on her life and her character on the beloved The CW show.

‘All American’ Season 3 Episode 2 Spoilers: Did Asher cheat on Olivia with Vanessa and will he betray her again?

Excerpts:

You began acting when you were four. Tell us about your childhood and what drew you towards the craft. When did you realize you wanted to make it your career?

When I was two-and-a-half years old, I used to love watching Telenovelas over cartoons. I used to act out the scenes and tell my mom I wanted to be inside the TV. I was four when I did my first play in the theatre. Ever since middle school, every single project that asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said an actress. In my sophomore year, I did an acting summer camp in Los Angeles, and that was it for me.

Your character, Vanessa Montes, is the highlight of the new season of ‘All American’. How did you come on board and what was the one thing that pulled you in?

I have been a fan of ‘All American’ since Season 1, so when my managers and agents sent me the audition I was so excited and nervous because I really wanted the role. When I did the self-tape I knew all the characters already so it was easier reading the scenes. It has been one of the roles I've wanted most, so it meant a lot booking it and now being part of the cast.

What is the one thing about Vanessa that you personally connected with? Do you think fans could be in for a shock as her character arc progresses on the show?

I connected with the fact that she is very confident about herself, very direct and straightforward. It actually inspires me to be more upfront and confident. I think fans will learn to like her a bit more, and girls especially will see how she carries herself, being a young woman and a Latina.

Vanessa’s entry came as a huge shocker to many fans and it put a question mark on Asher Adams’ love for Olivia. But was Vanessa the reason behind their break up? Do you think the two drifted apart with time and what does Vanessa and Asher’s future look like?

I believe they [Asher and Olivia] had been drifting apart for a while and dealing with their own things. Vanessa made Asher realize many things about himself he hadn't seen before, and maybe that made him wake up and need to work on himself rather than being in a relationship with anyone. I don't know what their [Asher and Vanessa] future holds. I know they did create a strong connection over the summer and it was the perfect time and place and what they needed at the moment… they needed a friend.

You are the daughter of Coach Montes. Could you or Asher take advantage of the fact and help him get back to the football team and steal the top spot?

I think Coach Montes is very tough and she definitely knows what she is doing. I believe even if anyone tries to persuade her, she already has a plan for everything.

In an interview, you said Spencer is your favorite character. Vanessa's entry shakes up his life too. Would Vanessa ever come in the way of Olivia and Spencer or try to disrupt Olivia’s life in any way?

No, I don't think Vanessa will ever do that. Vanessa actually means no harm. She is new in school, she wants to make friends and have fun. She didn't plan on seeing Asher there so she did bring up the drama without even wanting it. It just happened. If Asher hadn't been in the same high school maybe they all would've been great friends. It was just time, place and her being human and having feelings she can't control.

Many fans are also rooting for Vanessa and JJ... Do you think something's going to happen in that direction?

I don't know if Vanessa will end up with JJ or Asher. It is kind of a difficult situation because if you think about it, it doesn't look right from any angle. They are all friends, so it is complicated.

Tell us about your experience with the cast of All American... Who are you closest to in real life on the set?

They are all great and funny and I always have a great time. Most of my scenes are with Asher (played by Cody Christian) so I get to see him more. But everyone is amazing!

What's next for Alondra? Would you like to tell us about your upcoming projects?

Hopefully a lot more! I have a feature film coming up soon called ‘The Safe House’ where I play the lead role. It's an action film, so that's definitely something I'm excited about because it is way different from anything I've worked on before.

‘All American’ Season 3 premiered with its first episode on January 18 and the eighth episode titled ‘Canceled’ was telecasted on March 8, 2021, at 8 pm ET on The CW. The series returns with the ninth episode — ‘Testify’ — on April 12, 2021 at 8 pm ET. The CW announced the estimated schedule for its fall shows and the series is slated for the 8 pm to 9 pm time slot on Mondays. Going by the previous seasons, this one should also come with 16 episodes.
