'AJ and the Queen': Actress Izzy G's reveals her birthday present was a lead role on the Netflix show
Since its debut this week, 'AJ & the Queen' has captured hearts, gaining a large fan following due to series' lead, Izzy G. The show follows its pint-sized title character who joins Robert, a down-and-out drag queen who has had all of his life-saving stolen by his former love interest, while also embarking on his own journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.
Interestingly, the young actress also found out she was cast on the show on a very special day, her '9th Birthday'. When her manager initially told her she was going to get the thing she wanted during her birthday, the humble actress was excited thinking she was just going to get "cupcakes.” Instead, she found out she was cast as the lead in Netflix series, co-starring alongside show creator and icon, RuPaul Charles. “My parents just started like, bawling, and I started crying, and it was this was this whole flood of tears, and it was the best experience to find out that I’m going to be on the show.”
The young star said she enjoyed virtually every aspect of filming, but certain moments did stand out, like “the 'Grease' episode with Ru when we danced,” and the fact that “there were a lot of puppies on set, so we would always play with the puppies.”
While the young actress’s on-screen magic is undeniable, she also brought the magic off-screen with a hidden talent she shared with one of her costars. “Kevin Daniels- he played Robert’s love interest on the show-I found out that he knew magic, so we had a magic-off/ magic competition, and you know, your girl, she won!”
