Spoilers for ‘Your Honor’ Episode 5 ‘Part Five’

Tell a lie once and all your truths become questionable. ‘Your Honor’ presents one such convoluted scenario as Michael Desiato (Bryan Cranston) seems to dig a well for himself with his own lies. In the first episode, his son Adam Desiato (Hunter Doohan) confesses how he accidentally killed Rocco Baxter (Benjamin Hassan Wadsworth) in a hit-and-run and since that very moment, he has been trying to wipe off all traces of the crime.

But can anyone really manipulate a murder mystery or will the skeletons pop out of the closet sooner or later? The fifth episode begins with a court case as Michael finds himself talking to a felon who stole $502 worth of meat and is being tried for four years in prison. By now, it's clear that Michael — despite being a well-respected judge — can't help but pity the lawbreakers.

Titled ‘Part Five’, the summary of the new episode reads, “Michael attempts to return to business as usual until he discovers that someone is blackmailing him. Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg) and Gina Baxter (Hope Davis) remain committed to avenging their son's death.” So who blackmails Michael and can he trace the man?

The text messages

As soon as he slides open his drawer in the courtroom, he finds a phone with mysterious text messages. “This is your new phone judge. I know it is him. Your son. Do you know where he is now?” Shaken and stirred to see that, Michael wonders who sent it. He calls the security and asks if the courtroom is ever “open and empty”. He then dashes back home to find a news snippet hanging on his door. The headline of the article reads: “Judge's car used in fatal hit and run.”

The identification clues

As keys jingle while opening the door, he enters with a baseball bat and spots his dog, Django, lying on the floor. He first takes the dog to the vet and drops it on the stairs in a rush. While taking it in the car, his neighbor Amy (Becki Davis) gives him a clue: “I saw someone... He was in the house. White, Male, Green Toyota Camry. With a horseshoe in the window. Was it U-shaped? Yes.”

Was the dog poisoned?

It seems like someone tried to kill the dog by poisoning it. But we don't really know the truth. In a scene with Adam, Michael warns him to pick up his phone at all times and asks him who he was with. When Adam asks what happened to Django, Michael says he forgot to give its medicines. But is that the truth? Many fans can't stop wondering what really happened to the dog.

“So was Django poisoned? Or just a coincidence from the missed medication?” one post on Reddit read and another said, “Poor Django!!! I thought someone poisoned him at first but Adam forgot to give him his meds?! I'm unclear whether this was true or a lie from Michael?” So did Michael lie to Adam as he didn't want to tell him what really happened?

What does the blackmailer want?

A text message with the amount — $222,000 — pops up on his cell phone. He then tries to raise that money but his bank tells him he needs to give notice at least 48 hours in advance before withdrawing it. In the lift, Michael overhears two young boys who are on trial for possession of weed. He gives them a tip: “Anyone in your family has cancer? Tell him you got that weed for your grandmother.”

Then he asks them, “Anyone of you knows how to trace a phone.” Michael tries his luck but is unable to identify the sender.

How did the blackmailer get that video?

Later, he requests more time from the blackmailer. Meanwhile, the gas station guy is quizzed about the footage and he tells them a man tricked him into deleting it. In the very next scene, Michael gets a video of Adam at the gas station. The texts read, “Proof Lol. Bring money... Or (wink emoji).” Michael doesn't know what to do.

“I just knew that 'Dylan Thomas' deleting that tape of Leland's, gas station owner, was gonna bite Michael in the butt!!! IMO, he's behaving as carelessly as Adam,” one fan said and another posted, “This is a third party that we don't know about yet who is blackmailing Michael, right, or did I miss something??? Thanks! :-) Edit: And why $222,000??? Why not $250,000 or an even $200K? That's what I wanna know!”

Michael in ‘Your Honor’ (Showtime)

“It's the guy who was behind Adam at the gas station. The picture he sent to Michael confirmed it. Technically we don't know who he is yet, even though we've seen him, but I doubt he's anyone important. Most likely just an opportunist who wants money.” Another said, “To me, the voice on the phone sounded like the dude who is the go-between with the guy running for mayor and the gang. The mustachioed cop-ish guy whose role thus far has been nebulous. Can't fetch his name at the moment.”

Who could it be? What do you think Michael will do now? Will he be able to trace the man who sent him the phone and those text messages with the help of Amy's clues? Or will he have to give the blackmailer that amount to keep him shut? Was it the Black guys in the car behind him? Spill your theories in the comments below.
