‘Young Sheldon': Fans upset after Dr. Sturgis returns to the show only to break up with Meemaw
Fans were very worried when their favorite character, the eccentric Dr. John Sturgis (Wallace Shawn) didn’t appear on ‘Young Sheldon’ Season 3. The pilot episode of this season revealed that Dr. Sturgis was still in a psychiatric hospital receiving treatment. We all missed seeing the familiar friendly face of the lovable professor almost as much as Sheldon did.
After some wait, the professor made his comeback on episode 5, which aired on October 24. The episode saw Dr. Sturgis’s release from the hospital and him returning to the lives of Meemaw and the Coopers. Just as we were beginning to enjoy the return of our favorite character, Dr. Sturgis managed to break all of our hearts when he broke things off with his girlfriend- Connie, popularly known as Meemaw (Annie Potts).
Dr. Sturgis explained that if he has another “episode” while he was still in a relationship with Connie then even she would have to suffer, but if he were single at the time of the unfortunate event, then only he’d bear the brunt. In order to protect Meemaw, Dr. Sturgis selflessly sacrifices his relationship. He breaks up with her and informs her that he’d still like to remain friends with her.
Just like Meemaw, fans too were shocked with this breakup which came out of the blue. Several fans tweeted their shock and surprise on seeing the lovely couple’s breakup. A fan wrote, “They're goona BREAK UP?!? #YoungSheldon”. Another fan shared, “This breakup between Mee Maw and Dr. Sturgis came out of nowhere for me. I am shocked. #YoungSheldon”. “Man don't nobody break up with Mee Maw! Mee Maw does the breakin' up! #YoungSheldon”. Fans are unhappy about this breakup and expressed the same. A fan expressed, “Dr. Sturgis broke up with Meemaw, and wants to remain friends. Wow way to break her heart. #YoungSheldon”.
