A young Indonesian couple were whipped in front of a cheering crowd for an act that wouldn't make anyone blink twice in most countries: cuddling. The punishment was meted out in Banda Aceh, the capital and largest city in the country's highly conservative province of Aceh.
According to South China Morning Post, the caning was carried out in a public square and saw both the girl and her boyfriend receive around 17 lashes each, for the offense that is viewed as a "moral crime" in the only province in Muslim-majority Indonesia that imposes Islamic law.
