'Hooked!': YouTube's sci-fi thriller 'Origin' receives rave reviews from fans on social media
Released on November 14 featuring Tom Felton, Natalia Tena, and Nora Arnezeder, 'Origin' seems to be the next show you need to binge-watch.
It's time to subscribe to one more streaming service, as YouTube has released a mind-blowing sci-fi thriller 'Origin'. The video streaming giant YouTube expanded its horizons by entering the original series producer's market and its new series 'Origin' is already working its wonders. Released on November 14 featuring Tom Felton, Natalia Tena, and Nora Arnezeder, 'Origin' is a sci-fi thriller. The series brought together audience favorites Tom Felton and Natalia Tena, last seen together in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - part 2.' It was a nostalgic moment as fans of the Harry Potter franchise reminisced about the good old days when Felton played Draco Malfoy and Tena played Nymphadora Tonks in J.K. Rowling's wizarding world.
After the show's release, fans tweeted about the show.
While few others congratulated the series and said,
It is not an easy job to impress the fans these days, but 'Origin' happened to do that taking into account every detail of the show. One of the observant fans tweeted about the set the YouTube series used for shooting and said,
Awesome Origin set created by Swansea man for YouTube Originals sci-fi series https://t.co/TDCOWWkyoX— Bay Studios (@BayStudios) November 14, 2018
The set for the show was designed by Edward Thomas who was the production designer for most of the episodes of 'Doctor Who' for the first five seasons. Thomas had only 10 weeks time to design and build the enormous set for 'Origin'. The set for the show was built in a two-film studio in Capetown, reported WalesOnline.
Another fan appreciated the acting by the new actor-model Sen Mitsuji and tweeted:
New comer Sen Mitsuji (Model) is fantastic in his acting debut in @OriginSeries by @YouTube— Isaac (@ibot2000) November 15, 2018
Check him out. Im interested to watch his career. #YouTubeOriginals #OriginSeries

There were fans who could not complete the entire show but were hooked immediately after watching two or three episodes.
The show also had its fair share of celebrity endorsers, most notably - Emma Watson, Felton's co-star from the Harry Potter series. Right before the release of the series actor Watson took to Instagram and posted a sweet picture with Felton and captioned it as "🌴🤡 Tom’s @origin_series is out on 14th November. Congrats dear friend. #TFToleratingmysubparskatingskillssince1999."
That the show is earning such praise on social media is understandable. This 10-part sci-fi series is the brainchild of Mika Watkins. YouTube on receiving Watkins script for Origin, immediately 'loved it' and found it 'all young, so perfect for YouTube'.
It also falls down to the way Watkins pitched her script to them. She said it was a hybrid of 'Lost' and 'Alien'; a blend of science fiction and horror. Needless to say, Watkins may have found the perfect recipe to reel in a young audience and keep them 'hooked'. As Variety reports YouTube, has a lot riding on “Origin.” If the show succeeds it could prove a game changer for the platform’s subscription service to gain traction outside the US. And if we go by the early responses on social media, the streaming platform may have struck a goldmine!
