Early on in the trailer for David Arquette's upcoming documentary titled 'You Cannot Kill David Arquette', the once celebrated wrestler is asked why he wishes to return to the ring. "It's been 18 years of people thinking I disrespected wrestling. I'm just sick of being a joke," he earnestly says. The SXSW-selected documentary about the wrestler and actor offers a real, raw look into his life since exiting the limelight.
And now the documentary has finally dropped its official trailer and set a release date. Here's everything you need to know about the documentary.
Release date
'You Cannot Kill David Arquette' will premiere on August 28, 2020. It will also open in drive-in theatres on August 21, 2020.
Plot
According to the official synopsis of the documentary, "Branded as the most hated man in wrestling after winning a highly controversial WCW World Heavyweight Championship in 2000, actor David Arquette attempts a rocky return to the sport that stalled his promising Hollywood career. Dangerously determined to redeem his reputation and reclaim his self-respect, Arquette will stop at nothing to earn his place in professional wrestling."
According to reports, the documentary gets its name from a comedic song by The Black Math, alt-rock band, that centered on the wrestler.
Cast
The documentary features David Arquette, Patricia Arquette, Courteney Cox, Ric Flair, RJ Skinner and wrestlers Dallas Page and Jack Wrestler.
In an interview early this year, Arquette had said, "I set out to make this film to stand up for myself, to rewrite the ending to my story, and find a place where I could be proud of my time in the ring. We couldn’t wish for a better company to share this love letter to the wrestling world".
David Arquette is also an actor having made appearances in the 'Scream' series, 'Wild Bill', 'Never Been Kissed', 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', 'See Spot Run' and 'Eight Legged Freaks' among other projects.
Cox married actor David on June 12, 1999, in San Francisco. The couple have a daughter together named Coco, born in June 2004. In June 2012, David filed for divorce after nearly two years of separation from Cox. She gained popularity for her starring role as Monica Geller on the NBC sitcom Friends (1994–2004) and as Gale Weathers in the horror film series Scream (1996–2011).
Patricia Arquette is David's brother. She gained attention for her starring role in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), considered by many to be the best film of the Nightmare series. She is also the first member of the Arquette family to receive an Oscar nomination, and also the first to win the prize. She won in 2014 for 'Boyhood'. She played Tilly Mitchell in 'Escape at Dannemora' and Dee Dee Blanchard in 'The Act' TV series.
