The Yorkshire Ripper was handcuffed to a hospital bed after being rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack. 74-year-old Peter Sutcliffe was also scared that he may have contracted Covid-19 while he spent days struggling to breathe. On Wednesday, October 28, his condition had deteriorated and he was rushed to the A&E after developing excruciating chest pains.

The disgraced serial killer had tests while handcuffed to a bed and was being monitored on a cardiology ward. He had been under guard in a private room away from other patients. According to a source, "His heart rate is really high and oxygen is really low. He’s had symptoms of a heart attack." "He’s got three officers with him in hospital and is cuffed by both hands and is also cuffed to the bed. He was complaining of chest pains and went to healthcare in the prison and was sent straight to A&E. He’s in a cardiac ward and is under observation. They are monitoring to try and work out exactly what’s happened," the source added.

"He’s talking and trying to make conversation with the nurses. He’s being treated in his own room — they won’t treat him in the ward," the insider continued. The serial killer is currently serving life for the murder of 13 women, raised the alarm at HMP Frankland, Co Durham when he developed chest pains on Wednesday.

The prison guards had taken him to the prison's hospital wing before he was transferred to a nearby University Hospital of North Durham. He was admitted to the cardiology unit at 8.25 pm. Sutcliffe had been struggling to sleep in the last week due to his breathlessness.

Just last week he had said, "Difficulty getting my breath, could barely sleep. I hope I can breathe and get some sleep when I hit the sack tonight or I’ll have to report myself sick tomorrow." He has been battling ill health for the last couple of months. He had said, "I really hope to live . . . it’s precious, life." Sutcliffe is also said to be scared of coronavirus and reckons he has had the disease after suffering long-term, cold-like symptoms. Sutcliffe snubbed visits since they were restarted post the lockdown over fears of the virus. "I’m not risking it, it’ll kill you. It’s getting worse, it’s really increasing. You can’t be too careful, don’t take any risks at all," he shared. He has had many tests in recent months and said, "They are only letting you know if it’s positive. But what if it gets lost in the post and you think that you’re OK and you’re not?" Despite his ill health, he has been in good spirits and wants actor Tom Hardy to play him in a planned ITV drama. Sutcliffe was put into prison in 1981 for 13 murders and seven attempted murders.

His hospital visit would have possibly left him angry as he hates being handcuffed. In the past, he has said, "It’s absolutely stupid. Where was I going to go in a hospital gown? And how could I get out of the hospital? It was like a maze, a massive place. I wouldn’t even attempt it anyway. I’ve no intention of doing a runner . . . just this stupid category A rules they’ve got."

Social media users seemed pleased that he was handcuffed and commented on the same. One such user shared, "Lucky he's lived a full 74 years, his victims didn't. May be we won't be paying any longer to keep this sadist in prison!"

Another shared, "That’s way too much care wasted on this scumbag." Yet another shared, "Thoughts go out to his victims and their families/loved ones. Hope it’s f***ing painful for him."
