'Yellowstone' spinoff may follow Jamie Dutton's story beyond the ranch and could prove to be their best bet

Given the massive popularity of the show, it is possible that Paramount could do a spin-off series. This got us thinking about which character the show could feature.

Spoilers ahead for 'Yellowstone' season 2 finale '

In addition to a gripping plotline and a story that just keeps giving, 'Yellowstone' boasts of featuring an array of interesting characters. From the powerful patriarch in John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and the loyalists in Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) to the fearless Kayce (Luke Grimes) and the humble Monica (Kelsey Asbille), Yellowstone' features a cocktail of characters we can't get enough of.

Season 2's surreal finale featured deaths of major characters and set the stage for new beginnings in season 3. But given the massive popularity of the show, it is possible that Paramount could do a spin-off series. Which got us thinking which character the show would feature.

We nominate Wes Bentley's Jamie Dutton.

Jamie's character has been through a lot in season 2. He murdered a reporter, hid her body, almost killed himself over the guilt of the death, following which he worked on Yellowstone as a rancher, and is soon going to be a father. While his future - both at the ranch and outside of it - remains uncertain at the moment, he is entering season 3 with an ultimatum.

Adding to this is his acidic relationship with his sister Beth Dutton and a poor rapport with his father. If there is anyone on the ranch to share a decent relationship with Jamie, it is Kayce. Either way, Jamie could simply get up one day and decide to leave the ranch to never come back. Maybe the ranch life is not for Jamie. Perhaps he will leave the ranch to concentrate on his family. Becoming a father could teach him a thing or two - things that Beth has iterated time and again that he lacks.

Plus, considering how well 'Yellowstone' did in its last season, we are thinking that Paramount wouldn't miss out on expanding the show beyond the ranch. Season 1 of the series did exceptionally well for the network, but season 2 took the ratings to an all-new high; the finale episode averaged 5.7 million viewers in Live+3 Day viewing. 'Yellowstone' averaged 5.1 million viewers per episode throughout season 2. The Kevin Costner show is easily the most popular show on cable television.

Filming for 'Yellowstone' season 3 is underway. The season will be out in 2020 although dates are confirmed at the moment.
