‘Yellowstone’ has a way to surprise its fans — with both good and bad plot twists. You can never really tell how the plot of the Paramount series may meander. Ever since Season 3 began, it shed light on a battle brewing between John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway) for new plans to build an airport on the Dutton ranch.

Hit by constant obstacles, Roarke couldn't get the job done alone and now has Willa Hayes (Karen Pittman) on his team. The CEO of Market Equities, she is out to get her way by hook or crook and has already started playing the game by targeting Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley). With Beth out of the way as she fired her from Schwartz & Meyer and Jamie stuck in a conundrum after meeting his real father Garrett Randall (Will Patton), Roarke and Willa may finally reach out to John directly. Titled ‘The World Is Purple’, the official summary of the episode reads: "John sits down at the negotiating table with former friends and foes; as the battle for the future of the Yellowstone heats up, nothing will ever be the same." Moreover, a trailer for the entire season and a short promo shows a face-to-face confrontation between Roarke and John says: "That land is mine. Nobody can sell it but me." And then he tells Roarke: "You think you are winning this game? You don't even know the goddamn rules."

The last episode, ‘Meaner Than Evil’, ended with a brutal final scene where Wade Morrow (Boots Southerland) and his son, Clint (Brent Walker), were killed by the bunkhouse boys after he tried to get onto John's nerves by wandering into his territory, threatening his men and almost drowning Colby (Denim Richards) and Teeter (Jennifer Landon). While Clint fell onto a rock and died on the spot during the chase, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) caught hold of Wade and tied him to a tree.

First, he demanded to know the name of the person who hired them to get here and do this and pat came the answer — Roarke Morris. Then he instructed Walker (Ryan Bingham) to take back John's belonging from Wade — the brand. Walker ended up skinning the brand off of his chest after which Colby hung him by that tree. Now that Rip and the Duttons know why Wade came after them, will they capture him and let him suffer the same fate? Remember how at the end of the last episode, Lloyd Pierce (Forrie J Smith) told Walker that the West was won with all the skeletons filled in that dump. "All you have to do is figure out how not to be one of them," he advised Walker.

So will Roarke be the next one? Hinting at the highly-anticipated finale, Holloway told TV Line in an interview that Roarke will see Dutton as merely a "small fish". "There’s one moment, though where John leans in real close and kinda tells him what’s gonna happen," he says. "He might have a flicker there of, ‘Oh, this guy’s no joke.’ But this [high-stakes, cutthroat business] is what Roarke does, he’s gone worldwide, he’s not afraid to cross the legal line and hire guns and all that kinda stuff. So to Roarke, John Dutton is just a small fish. Nothing so hard to deal with."

However, he also told CinemaBlend in another interview: "I think Roarke way underestimates John Dutton. He just sees John Dutton as another kind of relic. Somebody trying to hold onto something that they are not going to be capable to hold onto, that they are not going to be able to afford, and that their pride is gonna make them lose everything, and he says as much to Beth (Kelly Reilly). So, I think he’s just another deal."

Well, we all know what happens to those who underestimate John Dutton, don't we? Many fans are scared that Roarke's character might come to an end. "Please don't kill Roarke. I love his fly fishing skills not walking on Duttonland!" one said and another posted, "Someone is gonna die in the finale and I think it’s Roarke."

Will Roarke die in the last episode of ‘Yellowstone’? Well, only time will tell. Catch the episode on Paramount Network this Sunday, August 23, 2020.
