'Yellowstone' Season 3 Episode 4: Who is Angela Blue Thunder and is she John Dutton's friend or enemy?

Wars for land are never over on Paramount Network's 'Yellowstone'. Some are fought fiercely for families and communities while others are fought even more fiercely for money. In this constant gamble of money and power, 'Yellowstone' introduced a brand new character — a woman with power and authority unmatched, who will stop at nothing to win her fights. 

Q'orianka Kilcher plays the role of Angela Blue Thunder, a Native American and political opponent of Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham). According to the official statement from the show, Thunder is described as "a woman with pain in her past and unadulterated fury in her present". She is convinced that Rainwater's management of the casino has been quite the disaster and definitely wants to overtake him. 

When Kilcher took to her Instagram to announce her addition to the cast, she wrote, "So glad to see more roles like this representing strong, educated Native/indigenous women out there!"

In Episode 4, as Rainwater is trying to out the meaning behind the cease-and-desist order he received from Market Equities, she shows up in his office, ready to punish the world and him for all the things it did to her. While Rainwater just thinks that she is out to avenge those who did her wrong, his aide Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) believes that is the definition of the devil. 

In a tweet shared by the official account of the show, Kilcher describes Thunder as a "force of nature", a powerful woman who has a lot to bring to the table. "There is own the land, and there is lose the land," she tells him in an ominous manner. Sooner or later, she will also be clashing with Beth. Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth, says that when that happens, "It doesn't stay calm for long".

As of Episode 4, we can't tell if Angela is an antagonist or not. She has a painful history that is yet to be explored on the show and no matter how many clues we rummage for, we think she might be an ally to Rainwater and John Dutton (Kevin Costner).

'Yellowstone' airs on Mondays at 9 pm ET/ PT on Paramount Network.
