Spoilers for 'Yellowstone' Season 3 Episode 10 'The World is Purple'

When John Dutton (Kevin Costner) woke up this morning, he knew he was not going to have a good day or even a half-decent one at that. And it was so. When he abandoned his car and got out to help the woman on the side of the road, audiences everywhere had an inkling that this was not going to end well. And it didn't.

In the finale episode of Season 3 of Paramount's hit show 'Yellowstone', John Dutton sits down to negotiate the future of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. He has friends and enemies at the table, but more enemies than he would have liked it (or known). Market Equities is desperate to take over the Dutton land and build their airport on there. Throughout the season, the two ends fought over the land with each other with Market Equities placing huge money on the table. But John wouldn't budge and refused to sell even an inch of it.

The Dutton family patriarch has long defended his land without values and/ or morals and intends to continue to do so. Only in Season 3, his enemies took it up a notch. In the final few episodes, the show was readying itself for an attack. Without divulging any details about who was behind it, the Dutton family has been scorned to say the least. It's not like the Dutton family wasn't attacked in the past. In Season 2, John's adversaries, the Beck brothers, had initiated a brutal attack on Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly). By the finale, to take over the land, they had kidnapped John's only grandson Tate (Brecken Merrill). But now in Season 3, the Duttons are at the center of the attack -- John is ambushed at the side of the road, Beth is delivered a box containing a box, and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) is attacked at the livestock office. Only Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) lives.

When the show was renewed for a new season even before Season 3 aired on television, we should have guessed the outcome: a slow, dragging season that had more audiences upset than pleased. Even we have our complaints with the finale, mainly due to the fact that it was painfully slow, only picking up pace towards the last five minutes. After giving viewers action-packed first two seasons, withdrawing the element altogether was harsh and sudden and this new pace didn't really sit well with many viewers.

'Yellowstone' is without a doubt one of the good shows on television, which shouldn't come as a surprise since it fuses diverse genres and elements seamlessly. While there has been a fair share of complaints regarding this season, it must be pointed out that Taylor Sheridan has set the foundation for a new season and how. We'll consider Season 3 a filler installment, one which was intended to set the stage for Season 4, and Sheridan achieved what he had set out to do. He has now got his audience nervous, angsty, and restless. Who will die, who will survive in this game invented by man?

The finale episode began with the premonition of death, John's restlessness, Beth asking Rip about body counts, pointing out how she is out to kill someone, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) ruminating about the death she was a part of. And the episode was intended to end this way with bad omens all around the Yellowstone land.

'Yellowstone' is renewed for Season 4, but no official details are out yet. With shooting and production already in place, we can be hopeful that we get to watch the series the same time next year.
