'Yellowjackets' Episode 2: Why did Misty destroy the flight recorder after she found it?
Spoilers for 'Yellowjackets' Episode 2 'F Sharp'
There was more of Samantha Hanratty's Misty in the second episode of 'Yellowjackets' as she was seen to play a key role in treating the wounded survivors after the devastating plane crash. The episode showed a bit of her life in the present as well, however, it was her actions in the past that makes her an early candidate to the villain.
In the final minutes of the first episode, she was shown to be a cannibal and the second episode shows how she's struggled with bullying and lack of attention since her teen days. One of the key storylines that just cemented the fact she would be the key antagonist was when he destroyed the flight recorder in the middle of the night. She finds the equipment a few years away from the crash site and contemplates letting it possibly work and transmit the signal before slamming it against the ground and then plucking out the wires and looks with grim satisfaction as the box stops working.

The major reason behind her move was the fact that she received due praise and attention for tending to the survivors. Although some of the teens questioned her reasoning when he severed coach Ben Scott's (Steven Kruger) leg, it was due to the fact that was damaged beyond treating and cutting off the limb meant he would survive rather than die with the pain.
Moments before she discovered the flight recorder, Misty overhears the teens talking about how good she was in those moments of adversity, and that makes her happy. However, her fear of losing praise and friends potentially, after being an outcast makes her do what she did. Surely, her actions have already explained why the teens were found after 19 months in the wilderness. Although her cannibalism isn't explained, 'F Sharp' provides the first hint at Misty's psyche.
'Yellowjackets' airs Sundays at 10 pm ET on Sundays on Showtime.
