#BernieWouldHaveWon trends: Would Bernie Sanders have beaten Trump better than Biden? 'He was the hero we needed'

'How I wish this intelligent and principled individual was the next President of the United States #BernieWouldHaveWon,' a user wrote

Senator Bernie Sanders dropped out from the Presidential race on April 8, 2020, clearing Vice President Joe Biden's path to the Democratic nomination and a showdown with President Donald Trump in the 2020 elections. But now, as some states have already announced their results, Americans are wondering if Sanders would have beaten Trump's numbers better than Biden did.

"I wish I could give you better news, but I think you know the truth, and that is that we are now some 300 delegates behind Vice President Biden, and the path toward victory is virtually impossible," Sanders said in a live stream while announcing his campaign's suspension in April. "So while we are winning the ideological battle and while we are winning the support of so many young people and working people throughout the country, I have concluded that this battle for the Democratic nomination will not be successful. And so today I am announcing the suspension of my campaign," he added.

According to a Vox survey revealed in February 2020, "11 percent of left-leaning young people say they are undecided, would support a third-party candidate, or, most often, just would not vote if a moderate were nominated — but say they would turn out and vote for Sanders if he were nominated." The website also stated, "For him to be the most electable Democratic candidate based on his ability to inspire youth turnout, Sanders’s nomination would need to increase youth turnout by even more."

But now, as the election day has arrived, #BernieSanders and #BernieWouldHaveWon have started trending on Twitter, as Americans are wondering what would have been the results if Sanders would have battled against Trump, this election. 

One Internet user called Sanders a "hero" and wrote, "Bernie Sanders was the hero we needed" to which another one replied saying, "He really is! #BernieWouldHaveWon" British television presenter Matt Barbet wrote, "How I wish this intelligent and principled individual was the next President of the United States #BernieWouldHaveWon." 

Sharing a tweet that reads, "I don't get it Biden did everything right. He didn't campaign, he had Alzheimer's, he made the election all about Trump and didn't offer a positive case for himself, he took corporate money, he condemned looting and supported fracking. What happened?," one Twitterati quoted, "#BernieWouldHaveWon" Investigative Journalist, Asa Winstanley tweeted, "The fact that Joe Biden couldn't blow Trump away immediately and unambiguously shows what a terrible candidate he was. This "nightmare scenario" was created by the DNC and Obama, who sabotaged Bernie Sanders and stitched the primary up for their mate." Another Sanders supporter wrote, "It should have been Bernie Sanders 2020, not either of these clowns... i’ll never understand Americans... #USAElections2020 #BernieWouldHaveWon #BernieSanders."
