'Work in Progress' Episode 2 promo shows Abby at her therapist's funeral talking to her photo like it's a session

One of the most important things that should be addressed in the upcoming episode is her plans to end her life. With the entry of Chris, a trans man she is romantically involved with, things may change for Abby

One of the most wholesome shows in recent times is Showtime’s queer comedy ‘Work in Progress’. Episode 1 saw the main character Abby (Abby McEnany) trying to deal with her therapist dying mid-session, comedian Julia Sweeney’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ character Pat (the character’s ambiguous gender and look had ruined her life as a young woman), and suicidal tendencies.

So, what can we expect from episode 2? According to the promo text for the episode on the Showtime website, “Abby feels out of place when Chris takes her to a hip, sex-positive, ‘queer wonderland’ for their second date and has a free therapy session.”

One of the most important things that should be addressed is her plans to end her life. An annoying colleague of Abby’s had given her a bunch of almonds to help with her “weight problem”.

Abby had laid out 180 of them on her table. The 180 almonds symbolized 180 days, after which, if she felt no better, she would commit suicide. Abby’s life is a reel of anxieties and depression. It is thus not unimaginable that she would want to end it.

But things obviously changed a bit in the first episode. Abby found someone. A much younger trans man Chris (Theo Germaine) and Abby went on a date. At the end of the episode, Chris asked Abby to explain the significance of the almonds.

Despite Chris bringing some excitement into Abby’s life, it is yet to be clear if he would have a positive influence on her. After all, both are startlingly opposite from each other. While Abby is introverted, shy and older, Chris is young, confrontational and visibly extroverted.

In the promo video, we see Abby’s friend asking her if she was a lesbian anymore, now that she was dating a trans man. Abby responds with, “I’m a queer d**e. Lesbians are old women.”

We also see Abby at her therapist's funeral, talking to her photo as if it were a therapy session. Clearly, she still has things to work on.

'Work in Progress' airs Sundays at 11 p.m., only on Showtime.
