Devastated 84-yr-old tries to kill herself after great-niece steals all her savings to go on exotic vacations

31-year-old Stephanie Colasanti was found guilty and ordered to serve six years behind bars after she spent $227,000 of great-aunt Glenda Bennett's inheritance
UPDATED JAN 23, 2019

A Wiltshire woman who swindled her 84-year-old great-aunt out of over $200,000 was sentenced to six years in jail after a jury found her guilty on both counts of fraud with which she had been previously charged.

According to the New York Post, 31-year-old Stephanie Colasanti spent $227,000 of great-aunt Glenda Bennett's inheritance on exotic vacations, shopping sprees, drugs, home renovations, and even a car and was accused of using her great-aunt as her personal "piggy bank," with the judge stating she had made the 84-year-old "utterly miserable."

The court heard that when Bennett, who is partially deaf, came upon a $650,000 windfall via an inheritance, her first instinct was to share her newfound wealth with her great-niece, showering the 31-year-old with gifts and even helping her buy an apartment.
