A Russian woman who killed her 17-year-old model sister out of envy has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

A court in St Petersburg ruled that 22-year-old Elizaveta Dubrovina stabbed her sibling Stefania at least 189 times and severed her right ear. According to reports pertaining to the case, she was jealous of her sister's looks and so she knifed her vital organs and gouged her eyes out, reports The Sun.

A video shows an expressionless Elizaveta, found guilty of "murder with particular cruelty", being handcuffed and led away to begin her jail term.

"Due to personal hostile relations, the defendant stabbed her sister at least 189 times with a knife into her vital organs, and cut off her right ear," a statement from the city’s prosecutors office read. "The victim died at the scene from multiple wounds and blood loss. The court found Dubrovina guilty and sentenced her to 13 years in a penal colony."

Elizaveta was previously sent for compulsory psychiatric treatment after being detained for the disturbing murder in 2016.

However, she was deemed mentally fit to face trial this year.

Stefania's alleged lover Alexey Fateev, now 44, had gone out shopping when she was killed at his residence.

The devastated boyfriend recounted how he returned from a shop to find Stefania’s gory naked body on the floor.

According to him, he detained Elizaveta in a bid to stop her fleeing authorities and later handed her over to police.

Prosecutors said in a court statement that Elizaveta "acted with particular cruelty" after the fact that she had gouged out her sister's eyes.

"She scoffed at her sister, causing her to endure excruciating pain because of her dislike," they said. "During the massacre, she inflicted at least 189 stabs on her sister - in the head, neck, torso, arms, and legs."

Furthermore, it was found that Elizaveta "copied the image of her younger sister - the same hair color, the same lipstick."

"There are photographs of both sisters hugging each other but there is no doubt that the elder sister envied the younger one," the statement read.

That said, both Elizaveta and Stefania had spent time in orphanages while growing up.

Ekaterina Dubrovina, their aunt, described Stefania's death as a "shocking tragedy."

"My blood turns to ice," she grimaced.
