Woman with 'fish scale' skin condition credits mom for boosting her self-confidence
A woman born with a rare skin condition that causes it to look thick and scaly has given credit to the positive affirmations from her mother that has allowed her to look at herself in a mirror with self-confidence. When the now 31-year-old fitness instructor Brittany Mickens from Fredericksburg, Virginia, was born, she was rushed to a children's hospital nearby because doctors did not know what was wrong with her skin. Her family was also told that the newborn wouldn't live past the age of one.
As Brittany got older, her skin grew thick, dry, and scaly, but all the doctors she saw dismissed the condition as an extreme case of eczema. They prescribed her strong creams to treat her skin but these would only work for a few weeks before her skin would go back to how it was, Daily Mail reported.
