A woman has been jailed after she repeatedly tried to stab her 81-year-old father with a 10-inch bread knife.

On December 7, 2018, 49-year-old Kathleen Lee yelled "I'm going to kill you" when her elderly father Peter Lee answered the door at his Middleton, Greater Manchester residence, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Kathleen, a mother-of-two who suffers from mental health issues, subsequently attacked her father and repeatedly tried to stab the former sailor in the eye.

Peter somehow managed to disarm his daughter despite being blind in one eye, and in an effort to calm her down, he invited her inside the home for a cup of tea.

However, she grabbed another kitchen knife once she entered the residence and began slashing away at her dad, screaming, "I want to stab you."

Once again Lee defended himself and got away with three small cuts on his stomach.

The 81-year-old somehow fought his daughter off and forced her outside the house, locking the doors immediately after. He then called the police.

Kathleen Lee was sentenced to four years in prison at Manchester Crown Court after she admitted to wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

Furthermore, she was slapped with a restraining order that bans her from making contact with her father for life.

Her father, Peter, said in a statement the incident had been "the single most terrible experience of my life."

"I have been in the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy under gunfire, and this was more traumatic and will stay with me for the rest of my life," he said. "Since the incident, I feel extremely nervous and I feel like I cannot leave my house without the assistance of one of my children."

"I feel even more vulnerable than I did before especially because of all my conditions which restrict my movement," Lee continued. "I get panic attacks and I feel depressed when I think about it. It’s very difficult to put it out of my mind, no tablets or medication can help or calm me down."

"I am registered blind in one eye, I have chronic heart disease and I am very unstable with walking," he added.

Kathleen had suffered from depression in her youth and adult life, the court heard. "Her daughters saw her a few days before the offense and described her as a woman whose life had clearly descended into chaos," defense lawyer William Donnelly said in mitigation for Kathleen. "She had an unhappy childhood which led to an unhappy adulthood."

"A psychiatrist said you were disturbed by your childhood and damaged from it," Judge Martin Rudland told the defendant. "You are not a danger to the general public. The only person likely to be the focus of your unwanted attention is your father. These offenses are serious and this was a sustained assault."
