'World of Dance' Season 4: Derek Hough surprised after Colombian dancer couple reveal they named son after him
The Season 4 premiere of 'World of Dance' began on a high note. While the judges- Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and Ne-Yo planned on surprising the dancers by showing up as judges for the qualifiers round, Derek was left pleasantly surprised in the end. The first contestant we were introduced to was a lovely couple from Colombia. Jefferson and Adrianata, who came all the way from Colombia to compete in one of the biggest dance competitions in the world, had a very sweet backstory that left Derek speechless.
Prior to their performance, the couple revealed that they had been dancing together for several years and have a son together, They then explained that they named their son Derek, after Derek Hough. When Adrianata revealed it to Derek, he was completely taken by surprise. Jefferson then explained that he saw Derek about eight years ago and was left awestruck. So, they decided to name their son Derek, hoping that he would be an amazing dancer as his namesake.
When JLo heard the story she was so pleasantly surprised that she began praising her fellow co-judge. While Derek was still lost for words, he eventually ended up blurting out thank you and expressing how flattered he is by their gesture. The couple then put on a brilliant performance. While Ne-Yo, and Derek couldn't find a single flaw in their routine, J Lo pointed out that the couple needed to work on their footwork. But, she seemed fairly happy and content with their performance. So, all three judges unanimously agreed on the couple proceeding to the next round.
The couple also managed to get their dream moment, when they got to do salsa with their idols- J Lo and Derek. While Adrianata was beyond flattered to perform some salsa moves with Derek, J Lo glided beautifully with Jefferson. The couple left the stage feeling happy and content while the judges shouted after them to convey their regards to baby Derek. Before leaving, the couple expressed their joy on camera and left a sweet message for their son saying that they were doing this for him.
Fans also took to Twitter to express their happiness and approval of the couple naming their baby Derek. A fan wrote, "Positivity Day 1,158 - World of Dance is back! 'World of Dance' Season 4 airs every Tuesday at 10/9c only on ABC.
