According to a criminal complaint obtained by WDJT-TV, Anthoni Cirra was babysitting his friends' 9-month-old son on July 6 while the couple were working. The infant, Lochlan was brought to the emergency room at Children’s Wisconsin on the morning of July 7.
Lochlan was admitted with severe injuries and was reportedly unconscious. Authorities described his injuries as “life-threatening and highly concerning for child physical abuse.” Doctors took Lochlan off of life support the subsequent day, and he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:19 pm, police said. The baby had suffered a significant brain injury “consistent with sustaining blunt force trauma to the head,” as per a preliminary evaluation.
Suspect had helped the parents get jobs
The victim's mother was introduced to Anthoni Cirra through a mutual friend, and he helped her and Lochlan’s father get jobs at his place of employment. The incident occured on July 6, when Anthoni, who had the day off, reportedly volunteered to watch the baby.
He reportedly dropped the couple to work at approximately 8:30 am and brought the child to his home located in the 1500 block of S. 3rd Street. Later, after returning from work, the boy’s mother reportedly noticed newly sustained bruises on Lochlan’s arm. When inquired about the injury, Anthoni “claimed to not know what caused the bruise on the child’s arm,” the affidavit states, per Milwaukee FOX affiliate WITI.
Suspect told worried mother she was 'overreacting'
The same evening, the baby's condition deteriorated and when Lochlan’s mother said that she wanted to take Lochlan to the hospital, Cirra reportedly told her that she was “overreacting.” Even though she wanted to take him to the hospital, the boy's father reportedly did not want to wake Cirra and ask him for a ride. On the morning of July 7, the infant's lips were blue, and he was not breathing. As the boy’s mother performed CPR, Cirra confessed his mistake and exclaimed, “This is my fault.”
During an interrogation with police, Anthoni admitted he dropped the baby while he was in his car seat and that the infant hit his head on the floor while he was giving him a bath. Anthoni then allegedly called his girlfriend as the baby would not stop crying, as per the complaint.
